The remains of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife Mary Ann Montgomery have been dug up as part of the lefts efforts to remove all markers and monuments to the historic cancelled.The bodies are now being held in an undisclosed location until they can be brought to their new resting place at the Sons of Confederate Veterans’ National Confederate Museum in Columbia, Tennessee.

A state lawmaker in Alabama is being called on to resign for saying he had a “great time” honoring a Confederate Army general and former Ku Kluk Klan leader this weekend. In a since-deleted post, Rep. Will Dismukes, R-Prattvile, said Sunday on Facebook that he enjoyed speaking at an event at Fort Dixie in Selma, where he gave an invocation for Nathan Bedford Forrest’s annual birthday celebration. “Always a great time and some sure enough good eating!!” Dismukes wrote. The post was quickly denounced by the chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, who called it “totally insensitive,” the Montgomery Advertiser reports....

Duval County School Board members voted unanimously Friday to start the process that likely would remove the name Nathan B. Forrest from one of its high schools. All seven board members voted to formally accept the written request of District 5 board member Constance Hall to begin the name-change procedure.

A racially charged Democratic primary campaign ended Thursday with an incumbent congressman trouncing the opponent who ran an ad linking him to the Ku Klux Klan. Early, unofficial results showed Democrat Steve Cohen with 79 percent of the vote to 19 percent for Nikki Tinker, a black corporate lawyer who was his chief opponent in the district that covers Memphis.

Monday, July 13th, in the year of our Lord 2009, is the 188th birthday of American legend and Southern Hero--Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Forrest's soldiers loved him. His fellow generals admired him. His enemies were terrified at the mere mention of his name. Gen. Robert E. Lee said of his finest subordinate commanders, the most remarkable was one he "had never met" — Forrest. And U.S. and foreign military officers alike have studied Forrest’s campaigns over the decades since the end of the war. It has even been speculated that some aspects of the German Blitzkrieg were patterned after some of Forrest's operations.
