Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is the last major Republican candidate to file his paperwork for the New Hampshire primary. Carson is near or at the top of most polls, but he rarely campaigns in New Hampshire. His trip to the Statehouse is his only stop in the state, and he’s scheduled to appear in Iowa less than three hours later. Carson now receives Secret Service protection, meaning security will be much higher at the Statehouse for his filing than for other candidates. It’s the last day for presidential candidates to pay $1,000 and file paperwork if they hope to get...

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The national debate over how to accommodate transgender students in public schools is playing out in a Wisconsin state Assembly hearing. Republican Rep. Jesse Kremer spoke Thursday at an Education Committee hearing in support of a bill that opponents say would be a violation of federal law. The bill would prohibit transgender public school students in Wisconsin from using the bathroom or locker room assigned to the gender with which they identify. Kremer says the bill does not violate federal law, but instead protects the privacy and safety of all students.

Well, wouldn’t you know it? “Membership in a terrorist organization does not prohibit a person from possessing firearms or explosives under current federal law,†according to the Government Accountability Office and now a report from the federal agency finds that over 2,000 individuals on the FBI’s terrorist watch list have indeed successfully and legally purchased a firearm from 2004 to 2014. Between 2004 and 2014, suspected terrorists attempted to purchase guns from American dealers at least 2,233 times. And in 2,043 of those cases — 91 percent of the time — they succeeded. There are about 700,000 people on the...

Gavin and Tom delivered their fraud right on schedule ahead of Paris, just as I predicted they would. They claim that October had the highest temperature anomaly ever recorded for any month....Somehow, they managed to calculate Earth’s temperature within 0.01 degrees – even though they had no temperature data for about half of the land surface, including none in Greenland and very little in Africa or Antarctica.

The world is on the cusp of a "post-antibiotic era", scientists have warned after finding bacteria resistant to drugs used when all other treatments have failed. They identified bacteria able to shrug off the drug of last resort - colistin - in patients and livestock in China. They said that resistance would spread around the world and raised the spectre of untreatable infections.

It wasn't very long ago that President Obama would jeer at Republicans for the many congressional votes they had taken to amend or repeal his healthcare law. But, much though he loves to jeer - his shameful and unpresidential fit of pique about GOP concerns on terrorists camouflaged as refugees, was a recent example - the president may soon beg them for a few more such votes. Because as its sixth birthday approaches, his health insurance law is in critical condition. The latest bad Obamacare news came on Thursday, when America's largest insurer had to tell Wall Street that it...

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Minneapolis city officials say several men tried to kidnap a woman in broad daylight as she walked up to a store Thursday afternoon. The woman says she was about to go into a business on the 300 block of Lake Street West at about 3 p.m. Several men were standing outside, one of whom grabbed her by the wrist and said, “Get in the car.†The woman pulled away and entered the store, and the men fled in a light-colored car. The men are described as Somali males between the ages of 18 and 25. Anyone with...

The racially charged protests that have roiled 23 universities from Yale to the University of Missouri in recent weeks reached Princeton on Wednesday. Members of the Black Justice League left their classes and occupied historic Nassau Hall, which houses the Princeton administration's offices. They demanded that officials acknowledge the racist legacy of Woodrow Wilson - who was president of Princeton before becoming president of the United States and expunge his name from anything named after him. They further demanded "cultural competency training" for anyone teaching at Princeton, courses on the "history of marginalized people," and a designated public space for...
