But the rumor that China has given North Korea a final warning has drawn particular interest from Weibo users. The rumor cited the May issue of Hong Kong monthly news outlet Dong Xiang. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said Wednesday that the whip count in support of the American Health Care Act is "getting extremely close" to the requisite 217 votes needed to pass the bill through the House. Ryan made the claim to radio host Hugh Hewitt, but declined to say whether a vote would take place prior to recess, which begins Friday and lasts for 10 days. Instead, he said they will bring the vote up whenever they have the votes. "I have a policy on not commenting on when we're going to bring these votes up," Ryan said on the...

The top Republican in the Senate on Tuesday rejected President Donald Trump's suggestion that his party change the chamber's rules to undercut the ability of Democrats to block legislation with filibusters. "There is an overwhelming majority on a bipartisan basis that is not interested in changing the way the Senate operates on the legislative calendar," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters.

In a contentious 4 ½ hour legislative hearing yesterday in Sacramento, Janet Napolitano, President of the University of California made a pro-forma apology for conduct that should have gotten her fired. She tried to rig an independent state audit, and she got caught, and she is sorry [I paraphrase]. Alexi Koseff explains further in the Sacramento Bee: University of California President Janet Napolitano apologized Tuesday for creating the “wrong impression†that she had improperly interfered in a critical state audit of her office released last week. At a legislative hearing to review the audit findings, Napolitano acknowledged that she...

In survey after survey, most Americans tell pollsters they want politicians to address the national debt. Support for specific policies may ebb and flow over time, but what rarely changes are the promises politicians make and break in response. Image via Musée McCordAlmost all politicians pledge to spend responsibly while on the stump, but once they’re in office, voters are at the mercy of a system so complex and crisis-driven it becomes all but impossible to know who’s keeping their word.So who is?As only someone who founded and runs an organization dedicated to reforming federal spending can tell you, understanding...

The posters appear to be made of bullet-proof drywall, which contains a Kevlar weave that will stop many–but not all–rounds from penetrating. The special drywall is a popular component in the construction of safe-rooms around the country. Giffords’ ARS uses poster-sized pieces of the material, emblazoned with the words, “This post stops bullets because our gun laws can’t.” Other versions of the poster say, “In case of gunfire hide behind this poster.”

As reported by Fox News and other outlets, many of the people on Target's ten-member executive team have changed over the last two years, some of them over the past few months. "Recently we've seen reports that Target's CEO, their chief financial officer, and chief operating officer have all had their salaries slashed by up to 40 percent," says Walker Wildmon of the American Family Association. U.S. News and World Report reported, in fact, that CEO Brian Cornell's already-generous salary was cut after a "bleak year" at the retail giant. AFA has been on a year-long effort to urge Target...

#FireColbert is on fire. Talk show host Stephen Colbert is taking serious heat on social media for a profane joke he made about President Donald Trump that many fans are calling "homophobic." The "Late Show" star sounded off on Trump during his opening monologue Monday night, criticizing Trump for abruptly ending an interview with CBS News' "Face the Nation" host John Dickerson. "Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine," Colbert said during his profranity-laced rant, which was bleeped during the telecast. "You have more people marching against you than cancer. You talk like a sign language gorilla that got...

A new video has come to light showing a ghastly incident where protesters were run over by an angry driver. It is hard to watch but it shows how desperate some people are getting. And perhaps a lesson that you should not protest on a highway. The driver is seen slowly pulling forward when the crowd swarms the car and refuses to let him go by. Then the driver backs up and floors it. It is unclear where the video took place. It looks like it may have been in Brazil. You are seeing these types of incidents all over...

As U.S. and China find common ground on North Korea, is Russia the wild card? By James Pearson and Alexei Chernyshev | SEOUL/VLADIVOSTOK, RUSSIA When North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent Lunar New Year greetings this year, the first card went to Russian President Vladimir Putin, ahead of leaders from China and other allies of the isolated country, according to its official news agency. Some academics who study North Korea argue Kim could be looking for Russia to ease any pain if China, which accounts for about 90 percent of North Korea's trade, steps up sanctions against the isolated...

And they already have five biological children of their own! Having five kids can be a bit of a handful at the best of times, but when you throw in another six — in one day — well, you’re asking for a whole lot more work, but hopefully a whole lot more love, too. It takes courage (and a little touch of daring) but this is exactly what Christopher and Christina Sanders from Ohio signed up for when they recently fulfilled a promise they had made to each other when they started fostering children. As biological parents to five children, the...

There's a new commandment for Catholics: Thou Shall Not Eat Tagalongs. The Archdiocese of Kansas City recently announced they are severing ties with the Girl Scouts. And that means no more Girl Scout cookies, too. Say goodbye to Thin Mints and Do-Si-Do's. The Washington Post reports that Catholics fear the Girl Scouts’ programs and materials are “reflective of many of the troubling trends in our secular culture,” and that the organization is “no longer a compatible partner in helping us form young women with the virtues and values of the Gospel.”So the Archdiocese is dumping the Girl Scouts (and their...

The two contenders for the French presidency go head to head on Wednesday in a TV debate seem as the climax of a long and bitter campaign. The aim for centrist Emmanuel Macron and his far-right rival Marine Le Pen is to win the votes of large numbers of undecided or reluctant voters. While Mr. Macron is well ahead in the polls, his lead has narrowed and an estimated 18% of voters are undecided..... For Marine Le Pen it is her big chance to land some blows and make up ground by exposing her 39-year-old rival's relative inexperience. Emmanuel Macron...

The contents of Steve Bannon's secret planning whiteboard have been revealed. Mr Bannon, who is President Trump's chief strategist, writes down his thoughts and priorities on the board. Now, they have been revealed thanks to Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a Jewish author who went to meet Mr Bannon. The Rabbi got his picture taken with the Trump advisor, but the whiteboard was in view of the camera. He then posted the photograph on Twitter. There is much written on the whiteboard about immigration policies. Two parts which stand out are: "new extreme vetting," and "Build the Border Wall and eventually make...

A release of FBI files on the late Muhammad Ali sheds damning new light on the legendary boxer’s views about race and politics after immersing himself in the teachings of the Nation of Islam. Ali referred to Caucasians as “white devils” and “crackers” and told mosque worshipers that “black women have the best sons and daughters in the world,” according to Federal Bureau of Investigation records obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information lawsuit. His deep involvement with the Nation of Islam and its racially divisive rhetoric and behavior is part of a record that deserves to be...
