September 9, 2020 was a strange day, and Google Street View has the receipts. The 2020 wildfire season was a catastrophic, record-setting inferno in California. Over 9,000 fires ravaged 4,397,809 acres of the Golden State that year — around 4% of its 100 million acres. Mid-pandemic, the swirling smoke and deteriorating air quality gave Californians two reasons to wear a mask outside that summer. By September 9, the smoke from the Bear Fire in Butte County and the August Fire in the northern counties converged on the Bay Area. A marine layer of ocean fog held the smoke in place,...

As the influenza pandemic swept across the United States in 1918 and 1919, masks took a role in political and cultural wars. The masks were called muzzles, germ shields and dirt traps. A Q13 editor was fired Thursday, after it was revealed that they had doctored a clip of President Trump’s Tuesday Oval Office address. A listener to my program sent me a video that appears to show a deceptively edited video of President Trump’s speech from the Oval Office. We performed a side-by-side comparison of the video from our listener, apparently taken by a smart phone recording of Q13, to the raw video of Trump’s speech from CNN. That comparison revealed the Q13 video creating a loop of the President licking his lips — making it seem bizarre and unbalanced —...

Editorial standards? WHAT editorial standards? If you throw an icky orange color on a completely Manufactured Monster, Fox affiliate Q13 Television in Seattle, will see that it sticks. An orange face was originally created for Donald Trump by smart aleck showman Glenn Beck on April 29, 2016. Almost three years later, Q13 recycled it to ridicule President Trump on the night of his Humanitarian and Security Crisis at the Southern Border address to the nation. No Cheetos necessary this time out when a distorted face of the president, complete with a large, exaggerated lolling tongue would do.
