House Speaker Paul D. Ryan told Republican donors Monday that he intends to continue pushing for an overhaul of the nation’s health-care system by working “on two tracks” as he also pursues other elements of President Trump’s agenda. “We are going to keep getting at this thing,” Ryan said three days after intraparty opposition forced him to pull the American Health Care Act after it became clear it did not have enough Republican votes to pass.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday to discuss the upcoming fight over the GOP healthcare bill and the possibility that President Trump was spied upon. Senator Paul said he couldn’t say if there was (or was not) a wiretap on President Trump, but he did argue that we “know… for sure” that the President’s National security advisor, Mike Flynn, was most certainly spied upon. George Stephanopoulos: “Finally, sir, you’re also a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. We see the president standing by that claim about President Obama. It’s caused a...

House Speaker Paul Ryan agreed Tuesday with PresidentDonald Trump that Republicans risk losing control of Congress if they don't unify this week to force passage of the leading bill to replace key parts of the Affordable Care Act. Ryan said he disagreed with the notion that there are not enough votes to pass that bill on Thursday. "Yes, absolutely," Ryan said when asked if he agreed with Trump's personal admonition to GOP House members during a visit to Capitol Hill on Tuesday that "many" of them would lose their seats if they voted against the bill. During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) expressed deep concern about government surveillance and the intelligence community leaking information to the press. With discussion among conservatives shifting more and more towards the “deep state” in recent weeks, Paul told host George Stephanopoulos that it’s known that the Obama administration spied on former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. He was referring to transcripts of pre-inauguration phone calls between Flynn and the Russian ambassador being discussed with the press, as the envoy was being surveilled by the U.S. Those calls led to Flynn’s resignation. “It is very, very...

"I think he makes a really, really strong case for term limits," Paul said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I think maybe he's past his prime; I think maybe he's gotten a little bit unhinged." McCain made the claims Wednesday from the Senate floor. "He has no justification for his objection to having a small nation be part of NATO that is under assault from the Russians," McCain said. I don't have any special information. But the way it works is, the FISA court, through Section 702, wiretaps foreigners and then listens to Americans. It is a backdoor search of Americans. And because they have so much data, they can tap -- type Donald Trump into their vast resources of people they are tapping overseas, and they get all of his phone calls.

Washington (CNN)House Speaker Paul Ryan tried to offer a robust defense of the House plan to repeal and replace part of Obamacare, but declined to say whether the bill could pass the House as is Wednesday. "It's not coming up this afternoon," Ryan told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead." "It's going through the legislative process. That legislative process has not been finalized. The long-simmering war between Sens. John McCain and Rand Paul boiled over on Wednesday when the Arizona lawmaker directly accused his colleague of working for Russian President Vladimir Putin. While speaking from the Senate floor in support of a bill advancing Montenegro’s bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), McCain noted objection from his Kentucky colleague, saying that if you oppose the measure, “You are achieving the objectives of Vladimir Putin... trying to dismember this small country which has already been the subject an attempted coup.” Several moments later, after the 80-year-old senator asked for unanimous consent to...

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Friday warned GOP opponents of the party’s healthcare plan that the measure’s failure could derail progress on other key aspects of Republicans’ policy agenda. In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Ryan said that a defeat of House Republicans’ bill repealing and replacing ObamaCare would be “momentum killing,” essentially having a domino effect on planned tax reform efforts, among other party goals. “Think of legislation as one train track with a bunch of trains on the track,” Ryan said. “If you don’t get these trains through the system, it slows everything else down."...

Rand Paul (Ky.), Ted Cruz (Texas) and Mike Lee (Utah) each pointed to the Senate's 2015 repeal bill as the "bare minimum" for the 2017 repeal legislation. Former South Carolina governor Rep. Mark Sanford (R.-S.C.) said he was proud to offer the House companion bill to the 180-page Obamacare replacement bill written by Paul. In the history of science fiction literature, few novel series have reached the upper echelon of belovedness quite the way Frank Herbert’s Dune has. The incredibly dense, richly populated space opera is considered by many to be the best science fiction novel ever written, winning all kinds of awards upon its release in 1965. There has to date been a single feature film of the work–David Lynch’s head-scratching, though undeniably visually arresting, 1984 effort–but save a Syfy miniseries in the early-2000s, Dune has remained nigh-unfilmable…until now! Deadline is reporting that Legendary Pictures has reached an agreement with the Herbert estate...

Donald Trump personifies the Liberty Movement’s finest anti-establishment spirit. He is the only rational choice left in the presidential race for those of us who hold liberty dear. Just like Ron Paul, Donald Trump loves America and Americans, and we find it fascinating that he arrived at many of the same positions as Ron Paul not by extrapolating them from libertarian principles but by applying his ample business experience and sheer human decency. Most importantly… 1. Donald Trump is a diplomat, a dealmaker and a non-interventionist. He wants to make the military “so strong that we never have to use...

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Tuesday the rise of Donald Trump can be explained by voters being fed-up that America is on the wrong track. Ryan blamed the progressive policies of President Barack Obama. "You have conservatives, like myself, ... who are very upset about the direction of the country," Ryan told "Squawk Box" on CNBC. "You have people in America panicked because they have economic anxiety." As House speaker, Ryan is not supporting any one candidate as the nomination contests continue. "There's nothing we can do about what's going on in the presidential election and what the outcome of...

Photos and more than 350 "intense" letters from Pope John Paul II to a married woman he corresponded with for more than three decades have been found at the National Library of Poland, Deutsche Welle reports, via a BBC documentary. The notes and images—often showing the pontiff, who was made a saint in 2014, in casual wear—reveal a friendship between himself and American philosopher Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka that included holidays spent together and an intimate relationship that historians are trying to figure out. "Here is one of the handful of transcendentally great figures in public life in the 20th century, the...

The night could have gone worse for the GOP establishment-but I'm not really sure how. Not only did Donald Trump win an overwhelming victory in New Hampshire, but the establishment lane of viable candidates got more crowded than it had been going in. And remember that since the current primary calendar was inaugurated in 1976, no GOP nominee has ever emerged without winning Iowa or New Hampshire. In case you haven't been paying attention, that means that, if history is a guide, the GOP is likely going to be choosing between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz as a nominee, which...

Echoing the recent sentiments of Steve Forbes, this week Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz told a group in New Hampshire: "Money is ... a unit of measurement. So, the reason why we see these rapid oscillations in commodities markets, it's because of unstable currencies. And it's why I think we should look at going toward rules-based money supply, ideally tied to gold, so you have stability." Perhaps this will trigger another flood of disagreement in the mainstream press, such as the recent New York Times item which reported that 40 out of 40 "leading economists" said that a gold standard...
