Berkeley Tuesday to shut down Patriot Prayers’ free speech rally, landing at least three protesters in jail, among them prominent “By Any Means Necessary” (BAMN) leader Yvonne Felarca. Felarca, 47, is a teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School and was arrested for battery and resisting arrest after the Antifa-BAMN “Victory March” celebrating Berkeley’s cancellation of “Free Speech Week.”

Columbia University’s “Knight Institute” is suing the Trump administration on behalf of seven individuals alleging the president “blocked” them from reading his Twitter feed. The lawsuit, filed with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges that due to Mr. Trump’s usage of his personal Twitter account to engage with the public, his @realdonaldtrump Twitter account is a “public forum,” blocking citizens of access is “unconstitutional,” and his personal Twitter account should be treated as a public forum under federal law.

In light of the ongoing violence on college campuses across the country, Middlebury College is instituting a “heckler’s veto” or temporary policy to shut down speakers whom they believe might be targets of threats or violence. A heckler’s veto is a term used when a government or institution of power shuts down someone’s First Amendment right of free speech to prevent or subvert potential violence that might be unleashed by a heckler in response to what they perceive as disagreeable speech. The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign’s Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter has gone radical on Facebook calling for “violent resistance, whether black bloc or full-scale armed conflict” in its fight against fascism, White Supremacy and Zionism. SJP’s latest event: “Smashing Fascism: Radical Resistance Against White Supremacy,” claimed “there is no room for fascists, white supremacists, or Zionists” at the Illinois university. U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.) announced he will introduce a bill to limit free speech or “hate speech” at universities and colleges and force the schools to report hate crimes to local law enforcement. His logic behind the bill is to require universities to demonstrate they have programs in place that will define for students “what is acceptable speech and what is not acceptable speech.” Brown said funding will be set aside in a grant for institutions unable to secure the resources to create the programs.
