CARVER – Police say someone shot an ear of corn through a police cruiser’s windshield using a makeshift device. Police say the corn, which had previously been described only as a “projectile,” damaged the cruiser but did not cause any injuries. At least two other cars have been hit by objects fired at them near Purchase and Callow streets in the last week.

Maryland state police and federal agents used a search warrant in an unrelated criminal investigation to seize the private reporting files of an award-winning former investigative journalist for The Washington Times who had exposed problems in the Homeland Security Department’s Federal Air Marshal Service. Western Iowa man killed after potato gun explosion HULL (AP) --- A potato gun stuffed with explosive powder ignited and erupted, killing a Hull man on Friday night. The potato gun apparently ruptured when it was fired by Ryan Meerdink, 21, authorities with the Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office said. Hull authorities discovered Meerdink outside a residence around 8:20 on Friday night. He was then taken to Sioux Center Hospital, where he later died. Authorities believe the explosion was an accident. "It's just been real blurry today," said Betty Meerdink, Ryan's grandmother. Funeral arrangements are pending.

ITHACA -- A 14-year-old Ithaca male was transported to the hospital after being accidentally hit in the eye by a potato-gun. At 5:40 p.m. the Ithaca Police Department responded to 206 Cascadilla Park Road for the report of a teen with an eye injury. <p>LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. -- Seven people are charged with attacking a Lenoir County deputy's house with a gun that shoots potatoes. Officers say the homemade device could have injured or killed someone.</p>
<p>Authorities said the suspects took a section of PVC pipe and placed a potato in it. The suspects then allegedly put chemicals in one end of the pipe and ignited it, firing the potato.</p>
