President Joe Biden signed a bill officially banning lynching on the federal level Tuesday, comparing the horrific practice to the people who marched at the protests in Charlottesville. “The same racial hatred that drove the mob to hang a noose, brought that mob carrying torches out of the fields of Charlottesville just a few years ago,” Biden said, referring to the 2017 protests. “Racial hate isn’t an old problem. It’s a persistent problem.”

USA Today claimed Tuesday that Georgia Senate Democrat candidate Raphael Warnock’s sermon calling for America to “repent for its worship of whiteness” is “missing context.” USA Today wrote how Warnock has come under “intense scrutiny from conservative groups who seek to paint Warnock’s religious sermons as radical.” The outlet claimed that the video of Warnock’s controversial remarks is “missing context” from the rest of his sermon. Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” filmmaker Spike Lee said he believes Americans are not more outraged by the daily gun violence in Chicago because it doesn’t receive the high-profile attention like Sandy Hook, Charleston and San Bernardino. When asked why he believes Chicago has such tremendous gun violence Lee said, “I think part of it has to do with that Chicago is America’s biggest segregated city and I think that has to do a lot with it. And people are just thrown to one side of town and left to their own devices.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said late Monday that Sandra Bland would not have died while in police custody in Texas if she were a white woman. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network is producing a Washington D.C. theater production on voter “suppression.” The play will be performed tonight at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington D.C. with hopes of more performances to follow.
