<p>Florida officials seeking to eradicate a species of giant snails that is invading the state are training Labrador retrievers to help in the fight.</p> <p>Reuters reports state agriculture authorities are engulfed in an aggressive extermination campaign to snuff out an invasion of Giant African Land Snails, one of the world's most destructive invasive species. Since the campaign started, authorities have collected 128,000 of the snails.</p>

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (NBC) -- A Florida family's Golden Retriever is being called a canine hero, while the family's cat should probably be sent to the "dog house." Bubba, the retriever, started barking when flames erupted inside the Lake Worth duplex just before midnight. It started in the front portion of the home, where Saundra Frazer had fallen asleep. Charles McCauley, who lives in the back of the home with his girlfriend, also heard the barking and came running into the front room where he saw Saundra trying to extinguish the flames with a blanket.

After we rescued a beautiful black haired dog from our local animal shelter, we were were told it was "half Labrador Retriever and half "Golden Retriever". I happened to be watching a dog show video on Hulu.com and lo and behold, there was our dog. They called it a " Black Flat Coat Retriever". We googled the breed and sure enough, the pictures left no room for doubt, that was our dog. Now that we are 99% sure that is the breed, a lot of the behaviors of the dog make sense. Golden retriever fetches stolen handbag A German golden retriever lived up to its name after it chased a mugger and returned a handbag to his female victim. The dog and his owner were out walking in Berg-am-Laim when the 51-year-old woman had her handbag snatched and began shouting for help. The passer-by sent dog Sizko off after the mugger, who quickly dropped the handbag when he felt the dog snapping at his heels. A police spokesman said the golden retriever had guarded the bag until the lady caught up to collect her belongings. The mugger has not been caught
