(RNS) Mitt Romney has trounced Rick Santorum, an ardent Catholic, among Catholic voters, but Romney's support among evangelicals has wavered thus far in the GOP presidential primary, according to a new analysis of exit poll data. Though he won evangelicals in two states, in general Romney has performed 15 percentage points better among non-evangelicals, according to an analysis released Friday (March 2) by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. Exit poll data is available in seven of the 11 states that have held primary contests to date, according to the Pew Forum. More detailed religious affiliations are available...
  • A "Bag of Rocks" may Beat Obama - but Romney Won't.

It has become popular in pundit circles to tritely assert that “a bag of rocks could beat Obama in 2012.” If that is the case, than let’s run the damned bag of rocks. I would sooner vote for the bag of rocks than I would for Mitt Romney. Furthermore, if Romney wins the nomination and a credible third party conservative does not come to fruition, we may have to write it in. If we ran someone against Obama who had the moral high-ground to challenge him on his destructive polices – our victory would be close to inevitable. There's a...

Mormons around the world are getting this warning Sunday: Stop posthumous baptisms of "unauthorized groups, such as celebrities and Jewish Holocaust victims.""Our preeminent obligation is to seek out and identify our own ancestors," says a letter to be read in every Mormon congregation. "Those whose names are submitted for proxy [baptisms] should be related to the submitter."Mormons who continue to embarrass the faith by submitting the names of celebrities and Holocaust victims for the proxy baptism rite will lose access to the Mormon genealogical records, the letter warns. "Other corrective action may also be taken," it says. The letter is signed...
  • Are we about to be stuck with Romney?

    03/04/2012 11:39:09 AM PST · by Tulkas · 71 replies
After winning in Arizona and Michigan, and then again in Washington, Romney has momentum going into Super Tuesday. Even Ohio now seems to be a toss up. If he starts to wrap this thing up then just what exactly are we supposed to do? I don't want to sit this out but I don't think I can vote for him. Is a third party vote worth it? It won't help get Obama out of office. I am starting to lose hope.

GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has pulled into a tie with rival Rick Santorum in Ohio, a new poll finds. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Sunday shows Romney and Santorum tied with 32 percent support from likely GOP voters in Ohio, two days ahead of that state's crucial Republican primary. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich follows with 17 percent support, trailed by Rep. Ron Paul (Texas) at 6 percent.

Mitt Romney won Washington state's presidential straw poll Saturday. He got more than one-third of the votes, well ahead of Ron Paul and Rick Santorum, who were battling for second, each with about a quarter. Newt Gingrich had to settle for about one vote in 10. Turnout at the caucuses was huge — about four times the number of people who participated in 2008....

"...They are LAUGHING at us because our so-called geniuses like Karl Rove, Dick Morris, Dorothy Rabinowitz, Charles Krauthammer, Fred Barnes, Britt Hume and many others have picked up with their narrative like a fumbled football and are running to the wrong end-zone with it. They are doing this while the rest of us scream from the bleachers “you are going the wrong way you cretins!” This is what we get from people who do not know what to do with the ball because they are so used to playing defense. Even when we had the House, Senate & Executive branches,...

ANN ARBOR, Michigan — As he watched last week's Republican debate from his apartment in University of Michigan's married student housing, Derek Osborne could hardly contain his disgust every time Rick Santorum came on TV. "He represents a part of the Republican party that drives me absolutely crazy," he seethed. Osborne, a Ph.D candidate, is a Mitt Romney supporter. He's also a moderate Republican who is alarmed at what he sees as the anti-intellectual fervor—and undeniable political power—of the Tea Party movement. As the latest candidate to emerge as the main populist rival to Romney, Santorum has become the primary...

Bill Maher has been doing a segment on his show every week about how conservatives are stuck inside a bubble and do not let facts get in the way of their worldview. But in his final New Rule tonight, Maher acknowledged that liberals live in a bubble too, especially if they think President Obama will easily soar to reelection against candidates like Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum. And Maher said there is a very realistic chance Obama might lose in November. Maher joked that Obama should be thanking Santorum for helping his campaign, because of how much Santorum has been...

With the Alaska Republican primary on the horizon, Alaska’s most prominent Republican has been making the rounds on Fox News, and this morning Sarah Palin stopped by to tell Republicans to keep their eye on the Democratic ball, not to fear a brokered convention, and not to watch Game Change. But in doing so she made a new revelation in being asked whether she would take the convention stage should it be brokered: she doesn’t expect anyone to support her. Giving a similar evaluation to the field in Alaska as she did last night– that Mitt Romney would probably take...

Several high-powered names have been bandied about for a possible No. 2 on the GOP presidential ticket. Sarah Palin, the Republicans' last VP nominee, on Saturday threw out a new one - Florida Rep. Allen West. "I would like to see considered for the VP Col. Allen West," she told Fox News. "In this tumultuous time ... he served in the military and has intimate knowledge of the way the military works and should work by having a close family member serve. Someone like that." Palin isn't ruling out another run herself on the ticket, should she be asked. "It...

50+ precincts were represented and it looks like Ron Paul, then Santorum. then Gingrich and Romney comes in last. A reporter came to our precinct table saying he had gone around the room of about 400 people and could not find anyone for Romney. Said he had plenty for Paul and Santorum. Didn't mention Gingrich. Mostly 20 somethings for Paul. I voted for Santorum. But my district is notoriously left of center.

A search for videos on Google using the search term "Romney" brings up keyword-targeted ads promoting www.mormon.org, the official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church. -SNIP- Google’s AdSense service allows advertisers to place ads alongside the results of specific search terms. Several unions that back President Obama’s reelection bid are spending big in an effort to damage Mitt Romney in key GOP primary states. Unions including The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are making ad buys to hit the Republican presidential contenders on issues key to their members, including immigration reform and the bailout of the auto industry.

Mitt Romney, in an op-ed published in 2009 at USA Today, still viewable at mittromneycentral.com, pushed Obama to do nationally what he did in RomneyCare, in Massachusetts. His words: "There’s a better way. And the lessons we learned in Massachusetts could help Washington find it." emphasis ours: Our experience also demonstrates that getting every citizen insured doesn’t have to break the bank. First, we established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages “free riders” to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical...
