On all offshore oil rigs, there is one main switch for cutting off the flow of oil by closing a valve located on the ocean floor. Many rigs also have automatic systems, such as a "dead man" switch as a backup that is supposed to close the valve if it senses a catastrophic failure aboard the rig. Yesterday Rush was talking to a caller re Toyota and the recalls. He said that Toyota has 5 plants here in the US, none of which is UAW/ union. THey had ONE union plant in Fremont, CA (Bay Area) that they had inherited but closed last year because it was too costly.
