A local school board in Chino Valley, California, ejected California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond after he tried to intervene in a meeting about parental notification for gender transitions. The board voted 4-1 to approve a policy that requires schools in the district to notify parents or guardians if a child wishes to change his or her gender. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) recently added two grassroots groups, Moms for Liberty and Parents Defending Education, to its “hate map,” labeling them “antigovernment” for daring to disagree with the SPLC’s political beliefs. Last Friday, as Madeline highlighted, Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) updated Virginia's policies on transgender students and pronouns, emphasizing parental involvement. This was a significant change from the previous administration of Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat. Despite such an update, it appears that the main culprits, Alexandria City Public Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools, don't show an intention of complying.
