  • Trump threat to NFL over 'massive' tax breaks

    BBC News ^ | October 10, 2017
US President Donald Trump has called for the National Football League (NFL) to be stripped of tax advantages. In a tweet he complained the league had received "massive" tax breaks, while some of its players had been "disrespecting" the national anthem. The teams pay tax, but have often received public support to build stadiums. The NFL league office, which oversees rules, referees and the college draft, gave up its tax-exempt status in 2015. "Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country? Change tax law!"

This is 100 percent pure speculation, but if I were a betting man, I'd say The Six, hosted by Jemele Hill and Michael Smith, will be gone from ESPN before the end of the year. -snip- First things first, despite what the lunatic in charge of our country tweets, one host who appears for an hour a day is not responsible for an entire network's ratings tanking. Yes, the ratings for The Six are down from that time slot last year when ESPN aired SportsCenter featuring Lindsay Czarniak. But let's put things in perspective and offer some context. Via Awful...

NFL boss Roger Goodell says all players should stand for the national anthem In a letter to the league’s 32 teams concerning players’ protests against police brutality, Goodell urged them to ‘move past this controversy’ and ‘honor our flag’ All NFL players should stand during the national anthem, the football league’s boss, Roger Goodell, said on Tuesday, as the controversy over protests against police brutality by players and their dispute with Donald Trump rumbled on. In a letter to the NFL’s 32 teams, Goodell said a plan was under way to “move past” the debacle. “Like many of our fans,...

RUSH: The New Black Pantherette, Jemele Hill, who is recently suspended from…? (interruption) What are you lookin’ at? New. New Black Panther. She’s not a Huey Newton. I mean, the Black Panthers, they’re one and alone. But the New Black Panther… She’s a New Black Pantherette. These are the people that thwarted people’s efforts to vote in Philadelphia. (interruption) Uh-oh. Dawn is got a worried look on. (interruption) Oh, it’s not about me. Okay. I use barometers on the other side of the glass to tell myself when the media is gonna get exercised over something I say, and… (laughing)...
  • Vikings Win But ‘Monday Night Football’ Ratings Hits Season Low

With the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears tied near the end of last night’s Monday Night Football, it looked for sure that the game was going into overtime. Then, even with injured quarterback Sam Bradford put on the field last night, the Vikings took control and won the game 20-17. That now finds Minnesota 3-2 in the fifth week of the 2017-2018 season. However, even with the much plugged world debut of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer at halftime, for the NFL and ESPN it was not such a great result in what is clearly a...

There's a famous Woody Allen joke: "Those who can't do teach, and those who can't teach teach gym." Well, here's a modernized version of that old saw: Those who can't do write, and those who can't write write about sports. One of the most amazing revelations about the shameful and unpatriotic antics of NFL players who are taking the knee (or even lying on the ground stretching) during the national anthem has been the near-universal approval by sports journalists. The left has infiltrated the locker room, and sports commentators now all think they are social reformers and muckrakers. Exhibit A...
  • The NFL Quietly Changed Its Obscure Rule About Standing For The National Anthem

Having gotten all the public relations it wanted (even a hackneyed Sports Illustrated cover), NFL leadership is now back to the more familiar demeanor of reminding its players to either get in line or join the unemployment line. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that any player who is “disrespectful to the flag” won’t play. The league, then, itself upped the ante by feeding this tidbit to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, which he reported before the station’s broadcast of [Tonight's] Monday Night Football. Mortensen later tweeted more details based on that policy and his conversation with Jones. (snip) Jones emphasized...

ESPN suspended Hill for calling for a boycott of the Dallas Cowboys’ advertisers after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones threatened to bench any player who kneeled during the anthem. Hill’s boycott was her second violation of ESPN’s social media policies, the network said. She previously stirred controversy by calling President Trump a “white supremacist” on Twitter. The backlash against ESPN for Hill’s suspension began almost immediately among left-wing activists and celebrities, many of whom used the hashtag “#BoycottESPN” on social media.

RUSH: Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, said that any player who disrespects the flag will not play for the Dallas Cowboys. Snerdley, you’re a Cowboys fan. You agree with that? You do? Steve Ross, who owns the Miami Dolphins, said if you come out, you are standing. Nobody is kneeling. Three players stayed in the locker room during the National Football League. Now, why would Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, say that any player who disrespects the flag will not play for the Cowboys? I have a theory. I think Jerry Jones wants to...

ESPN pundit Jemele Hill wants fans to boycott the sponsors of the Dallas Cowboys following remarks from owner Jerry Jones. Jones said Sunday that he will bench players who refuse to stand for the national anthem, and apparently that didn’t sit too well with Hill. “Change happens when advertisers are impacted. If you feel strongly about JJ’s statement, boycott his advertisers,” she tweeted in part late Sunday night after his comments. Not sure how happy ESPN management will be with an employee telling NFL fans to boycott NFL related sponsors, given the fact that ESPN needs the NFL to stay...

My husband is (was) a HUGE Steelers fan. I mean MEGA GIGUNDA fan since childhood to the point of having a tattoo with the Steelers old school emblem. AS for myself, I couldn't care less--not a big football fan to begin with. I prefer hockey but I digress. My son and daughter in law are HUGE Packers fans. They are conservative, however, they try to overlook all the stupid anti-Trump protesting/kneeling that is going on just because they like football. Earlier this year before all this anti-Trump protesting from the players, I purchased 4 very pricey NFL tickets for Heinz...

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones has had it with anthem protests. Just how tired of it is he? Tired enough that Jones has now publicly said that if his team doesn’t respect the flag, they’re not going to play. Jones was asked by Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, about two Cowboys players who raised their fists at the end of the anthem. Jones said he did not see the raised fists. But then, Jones made a definitive statement about how he wants to see his team to handle the anthem from now on. According to Pro Football Talk, Jones...

ARLINGTON Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said any players in his organization who disrespect the flag during the national anthem will not play in games. Jones is the first owner in the NFL to go on record about disciplining players who disrespect the flag during the national anthem. He didn’t specify kneeling or raising fists in the arm or other gestures made by players around the league. Jones made his strongest statements regarding the national anthem protests throughout the NFL after Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. “If there is anything disrespecting the flag, then we will not play....

FULL TITLE: Miami Dolphins owner FORCES players to stand on the field during national anthem - as three refuse and remain in the tunnel Miami Dolphins players were forced by the team owner to stand before Sunday's game when a military band played the national anthem. Stephen Ross, who was an advocate for players protesting in the past during the national anthem, changed his views on the issue after comments President Donald Trump made saying players should be fired and referred to them collectively as 'son of a b***h.' Before the team's game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Ross...

A recent Cato Institute poll shows Republicans, at least those surveyed by the libertarian think tank, and average voters are at odds with each other on the NFL controversy. "Sixty-five percent of Republicans say that NFL players who refuse to stand for the National Anthem should be fired," Cato pollster Emily Ekins said on Sept. 28 in a First Amendment conference at the Libertarian think tank. "This is wildly out of step with what most Americans think." "Sixty-one percent say that players should not be fired for refusing to stand." Yet, the Cato survey oversampled college students. Moreover, the Cato...

The woman perhaps, most singularly responsible for Colin Kaepernick remaining a free agent, and out of the NFL, has spoken. Much like you would expect, her words do not bode well for Kaepernick’s chances of resuming his career. Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, sent this tweet out on Sunday: The reports that Colin will stand for the anthem are completely false! He has never discussed this with anyone. pic.twitter.com/tWusUBJMeF — NESSA (@nessnitty) October 8, 2017 [cut] After strong reactions like that from Diab, and reports from Kaepernick’s camp, La Canfora retracted his story the statement he had made earlier on...

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, an advocate for players kneeling in protest during the national anthem in the past, has changed his view of how that time before NFL games should be handled because President Donald Trump has changed the meaning of what it means to protest at that time. "Trump has made [standing for anthem] about patriotism,” Ross said before the Dolphins game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. “It's so important if that's what the country is looking at to look at [the protest] differently.” And so Ross now believes all NFL players and certainly his players -- the...
