A new restaurant in Finsbury Park boasts burratas, rarebit and tacos – all made with crickets. But is insect protein really the future? With jaunty yellow branding, moody lighting and the promise of ‘small plates’, Yum Bug, a new restaurant in Finsbury Park, north London, might be any trendy rollout. In fact, it is one of a kind. Yum Bug advertises itself as ‘Britain’s first permanent edible insect restaurant’. Rather than lamb, tofu or fish, Yum Bug uses crickets for its protein. Inside, brave pioneers eat dishes including Welsh rarebit made with minced cricket, burrata with whole roasted crickets, even pulled...

VIDEO AT LINK.......................... Feb. 15 (UPI) -- A Florida woman took out her phone and started recording when a trio of masked bandits stole her DoorDash taco order from in front of her door. Caterina Sevares said she opened the front door of her West Palm Beach apartment to retrieve her DoorDash order from Talkin' Tacos, but she instead came face to face with three raccoons who were enjoying her late-night meal. "My jaw dropped," Sevares told WOFL-TV. Sevardes took out her phone and recorded video of the scene, which she posted to TikTok. "Once they started hissing, I shut...

Illegal Chinese marijuana grows have taken over much of rural Maine. The government is either incapable — or unwilling — to do anything about it. The Maine Wire has identified more than 100 properties that are part of a sprawling network of Chinese-owned sites operating as unlicensed, illicit cannabis growing operations in rural Maine. According to an unclassified memo from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) obtained by the Maine Wire, the illicit grows are operated by Asian Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs). The properties cover Somerset County, Penobscot County, Kennebec County, Franklin County, Androscoggin County, and Oxford County. The...

Consumer prices were up by 9.1 percent nationally in June. For Austin taco business owners, this means rising costs on everything needed to operate a restaurant.TacosTacos have long been the great Austin equalizer. Everyone should be able to afford an al pastor de maiz after a night out or grab a chorizo-and-egg before a busy day at work. But now, as with most things throughout the country, inflation has hit this cherished food staple hard. Consumer prices were up by 9.1 percent nationally in June, the highest it has been in 40 years. For taco business owners, this leads to...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration will pay nearly $4 million for its largest solar-power project yet, updating an air-traffic control and training center in Oklahoma. The agency said Thursday that the project will help it meet President Joe Biden’s order that government buildings use 100% carbon pollution-free electricity by 2030. The FAA said the panels are expected to generate enough power for 260 average homes and reduce the center’s electric bill by $170,000 to $200,000 a year. At the upfront cost of $3.98 million, it will take 20 to 23 years for the panels to pay for themselves.

The news breaks after the first lady experienced a series of embarrassing incidents in her official position. On July 12, LaRosa had to apologize for the first lady’s embarrassing speech to the Latino community, after she compared them to breakfast tacos. On July 16, Jill Biden complained she and the president had to deal with multiple crises since taking office, instead of focusing on their planned agenda items. “He had so many hopes and plans for things he wanted to do, but every time you turned around, he had to address the problems of the moment,” she said. On July...

A Texas congresswoman took a bite out of First Lady Jill Biden for her recent gaff about the state’s Hispanic community and tacos by comparing the remarks to how much inflation has increased the cost of the popular dish. GOP representative Mayra Flores grilled Biden by tweeting a saucy meme that focused on how “taco inflation” during the current administration was squeezing people’s wallets. “Tacos inflation — tacos are unique. Ingredients may vary,” said the meme.

U.S. — According to recent polling data, the Americans described by Jill Biden as "breakfast tacos" are inexplicably switching to the Republican Party in record numbers. "We aren't sure why the Latinx, who are as special and unique as a breakfast taco — or maybe a toasted cheddar chalupa — are leaving the Democrats," said Dr. Jill Biden while performing routine spinal surgery on one of her patients. "Don't they know how much we Democrats care about their vote? Perhaps we need more abortions and drag queen story hours." Local breakfast taco Carlos Hernandez isn't convinced. "You know, I'm just...

CBS co-host Vladimir Duthiers noted that many found the comment 'incredibly offensive' First Lady Jill Biden took heat Monday for a short-sighted comment comparing Hispanics to "breakfast tacos" during the UnidosUS Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas, but one CBS host was sympathetic to the gaffe. "Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community, as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio, is your strength," she said Monday, praising UnidosUS President Raul Yzaguirre for his work....

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) slammed First Lady Jill Biden in a statement — telling her, “we are not tacos” — after Biden compared the Hispanic community’s diversity to “breakfast tacos.” The First Lady claimed that the Hispanic community is “as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio” while speaking at Latinx IncluXion Luncheon on Monday. “Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community – as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San...

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) responded on Monday to a much-criticized comment by first lady Jill Biden calling the Latino community “as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio,” saying that the remark was culturally inappropriate. “We are not tacos,” wrote the NAHJ in a statement criticizing Biden. “NAHJ encourages Dr. Biden and her speech writing team to take the time in the future to better understand the complexities of our people and communities,” the group added. Biden made the remark earlier Monday at the 2022 UnidosUS Annual Conference held in Texas, where she spoke on...

For chef and author Bricia Lopez-Maytorena, it's a matter of respect. When Bricia Lopez-Maytorena was on the Chicago leg of her tour for Oaxaca: Home Cooking from the Heart of Mexico, a group of attendees migrated one block down the street after the event wound down. They settled in at La Josie, a Mexican restaurant in the trendy (and expensive) West Loop neighborhood, where the tortillas are handmade on-site and the menu lists a trio of carne asada tacos for $19, without sides. The group blanched at the prices and opted for lower-ticket items. Then Lopez-Maytorena walked into the same restaurant....

A woman who went viral with the hilarious story of her “worst first date” is now claiming that a “drove” of other women have come forward with stories of a strikingly similar — and awful — first dates, perhaps with the very same romantically-challenged bachelor. Elyse Myers, a web developer and content creator from Nebraska, first shared the tale of her disastrous 2011 date on TikTok last week. As she explained in the video, Myers met her suitor on a dating app before driving to his house, where she assumed they would be meeting up and leaving for a restaurant....

Twenty-two years ago, Casa Sanchez in San Francisco estimated that its notorious tacos-for-tattoos deal would cost somewhere in the ballpark of $5.8 million.\ Martha Sanchez, who came up with the deal, arrived at that pricey estimate after the promotion was already underway. Assuming that the 50 or so inked-up people stayed in San Francisco for their lifetimes and got an eight-buck meal every week, the figure would be staggering. That number didn’t even include the second round of people when Casa Sanchez revived the deal; more on that later. But for at least two of the first people in San...

It’s a lot of work no matter how many times you do it. So feel free to start your day in the pre-dawn hours with Ms. P’s Breakfast Tacos. Bebe Rexha is spicing up her manicure. The “Meant to Be” singer, 32, took to Instagram Friday to promote Sinful Colors’ new Salty & Sweet collection of nail polishes that look — and even smell — like snack foods including tacos, donuts, pizza, chocolate cake, cheese puffs and cookies and cream. The full collection of all six shades initially retailed for $14.29 at Walmart, but is currently — shockingly — sold out. However, those who can’t resist licking their fingers after chowing down on a bag of Cheetos can nab the individual polishes for $2.98 each. Reviews for the Salty...
