“We have officers from across the province and country here to help us; every person supporting this effort is proud to be here,” he (Steve Bell, Ottawa Interim Chief of Police) declared, suggesting that there is little hesitance among officers about enforcing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s emergency powers clampdown on protestors. [cut] Members of the press gave the police chief some mild pushback on his claim that his men have acted with restraint, with one asking “with respect, sir, can you explain what appears to be excessive force by police officers when a protestor is arrested; there is multiple videos...

Canadian police have set a midnight deadline for truckers to clear the Ambassador Bridge on Friday night, after they decided to defy the original deadline of 7pm, and handed out flyers warning those refusing to retreat that they risked CA $100,000 fines ($78,000) and the permanent loss of their commercial driving license. The drivers are now setting themselves up for a showdown with police after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that 'everything is on the table' to end the Freedom Convoy demonstrations, after speaking directly with President Joe Biden. Attorneys representing the Muriel Bowser administration’s police force in Washington, D.C., made what should be a stunning admission in federal court last week. According to a report from WUSA-TV, a leading source of local news for the District of Columbia, “An attorney for DC Police said in court, for the first time, that the department did indeed use tear gas on protesters around Lafayette Square Park last June.” “The curfew, violence of past nights, chaos created by federal defendants, discharge of tear gas in that direction was not unreasonable,” lawyer Richard Sobiecki said. This admission is noteworthy because the Metropolitan...

More than a thousand people reported lasting health effects after being exposed to teargas during protests in Portland, Oregon, last summer, according to a newly published scientific study. Nearly 900 people reported abnormal menstrual cycles, including intense cramping and increased bleeding, that began or persisted days after their initial exposure to the teargas. Hundreds of others complained of other negative health impacts, including severe headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and mental health concerns. The new research, based on an online survey of more than 2,200 people, challenges claims that the health consequences of being teargassed are minor and temporary, said Dr Britta...

On Friday, the Minneapolis City Council voted 11-1 to oppose the use of tear gas and other munitions as part of Minnesota's response to protesters. Thursday night, police never ordered any of the crowd to disperse, as the crowd thinned out and was in the 20s about 90 minutes after the 10 p.m. curfew took effect in Brooklyn Center. However, the previous four nights featured law enforcement using tear gas and other less-lethal munitions on protesters. Over 3,000 National Guard soldiers have been deployed in response to the unrest seen in Brooklyn Center after former officer Kim Potter shot and...

The protests continued for more than 101 days before smoke from wildfires stalled the nightly demonstrations earlier this month. Friday was the first late-night protest in more than a week. It was also the first since Mayor Ted Wheeler barred Portland police from unleashing tear gas on demonstrators and people who live nearby. Yet social media was still filled with reports of tear gas Friday night. Multiple independent reporters said federal officers deployed gas as they forced the crowd away from a South Portland Immigrations and Customs Enforcement building. Federal officials have not yet confirmed the reports. Live videos from...

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) on Thursday ordered the Portland Police Bureau to cease using a form of tear gas as riots continue to plague the Democrat-run city. The Oregonian reports: The declaration that officers will no longer unleash CS gas comes after 105 straight days of protests that have seen city and federal officers deploy tear gas on participants. Over that time, people have also repeatedly been subjected to gas by Portland police in their cars or homes while not participating in the demonstrations. […] Public records show Portland police have spent tens of thousands of dollars on less-lethal...

More than 100 law enforcement agencies have reportedly pulled out of security agreements to send personnel to help with security at the Democratic National Convention next month in part because they are concerned about recent efforts to limit law enforcement’s use of tear gas and pepper spray in responding to violent riots. Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales was ordered last month to change the department’s policies to ban the use of tear gas and pepper spray.

Despite Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler having spent his whole career as mayor catering to left-wing extremists, Rose City’s extremists showed him zero love when he chose inexplicably to march among them during a “protest” Wednesday. From the moment Wheeler entered the scene — reportedly with his security detail close by — he was hassled, with the extremists pouring broken glass in front of his path, yelling in his face, cursing him out and calling him a “f–king fascist.”

When some of the protesters and potential rioters showed up in downtown Portland, Oregon last night holding signs reading “Tear Gas Ted,” I’m pretty sure they were assigning that nickname to Mayor Wheeler, not issuing instructions to law enforcement. But the DHS officers deployed to protect the federal courthouse may have taken their signage seriously. In the wee hours of this morning, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler was indeed tear-gassed by the feds while he stood at the front of the mob challenging the barrier erected around the courthouse. From the sound of things, he handled the gas pretty well....

A King County, Washington, Superior Court Judge has approved a petition for a recall election for Democrat Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan. The Seattle Times reported that the Friday ruling over Durkan’s recent handling of police brutality can proceed, allowing petitioners to start getting enough signatures to get the recall measure on the ballot. KOMO reported that the plaintiffs behind the petition would have to collect 50,000 signatures before an election can be held. The Durkan petitioners’ recall effort accuses Durkan of “endanger(ing) the peace and safety of the community” by allowing the police to “leak false information about fabricated crimes...
