The backstory on Weiner’s implosion So the Democratic leadership has called on Anthony Weiner to resign, in the wake of news that he had connected with a 17 year old girl through social media. The family has claimed that nothing was untoward, but suddenly, a fusillade of statements came from Dem leaders today demanding he resign. Here’s what happened, according to a senior Democratic aide. Nancy Pelosi had been privately urging Weiner to resign and seek treatment for days, the aide says. But he told her today that he would take a temporary leave of absence and seek treatment. Once...

Politisite is hearing  one source close to the Congressman  that  Weiner will resign by the end of the day or early Thursday. A Marist poll by Weiners own constituents say he should  not resign by a  slim majority. CNN is reporting that Privately colleagues are recommending that he resign quickly. It was reported  that Weiners wife, Huma Abedin, is Pregnant adding to the family stress level.  Ironically Huma is with Secretary of State Clinton on Business who can probably help console Adedin during this time. Democrat colleagues urging Weiner to resign ‘to preserve his own dignity’ A Democratic lawmaker familiar...

You can certainly make a compelling case that Anthony Weiner should not have to give up his seat in Congress or his career in elected politics because of the online photo scandal that has engulfed him this week. But if this does end up being the end for Weiner's public career, it might not be quite the injustice it seems like -- at least if you know how his career began.

Sen. Chuck Schumer refused to answer questions Monday evening about the Twitter scandal that has ensnared Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), his one-time congressional aide. But in a statement, the powerful Democratic senator said he was "deeply pained and saddened" about the married congressman's admission at a New York news conference Monday that he carried on lewd online conversations with at least half a dozen women. "By fully explaining himself, apologizing to all he hurt and taking full responsibility for his wrongful actions, Anthony did the right thing," Schumer said. "He remains a talented and committed public servant, and I pray...
