New details have emerged about a shooting that left a man critically injured in River North on Saturday evening, a crime that one Chicago police detective said left “upwards of 50” shell casings in the street. CPD issued a brief media statement after the shooting, saying a gunman walked up to the victim in the 300 block of West Erie around 6:36 p.m. and fired shots. ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — A mother was arrested in Italy, Texas, after she allegedly stabbed three of her children to death and and injured two more of her children Friday, sources told WFAA. That all changed Monday in the flash of a predawn fire near Santa Cruz Island, when the Conception sank in flames, taking with it more than 30 people who were below deck in bunk beds, apparently unable to get out.

NAPPANEE Indiana — U.S Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, 58, is one of four people killed in a Wednesday wreck near Nappanee. The crash occurred at the intersection of Ind. 19 and Ind. 119, where one car was heading south and another heading north at 12:32 p.m. The other two occupants of the southbound vehicle Walorski was in are identified as Zachery Potts, 27, Mishawaka, and Emma Thomson, 28, of Washington, D.C. The sole occupant of the northbound vehicle, Edith Schmucker, 56, Nappanee, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Further details to follow as they become available.

Mark Aungst, who was facing up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine, killed himself on July 20, according to his obituary. Aungst was among the many Jan. 6 demonstrators caught up in a protracted legal process stemming from the chaos of that day. He had pled guilty to a charge of demonstrating or parading in a restricted building and was due to be sentenced in September. The deceased reportedly walked through the Capitol building taking photographs during the incident.
