Fischer, 61, a state legislator, easily won in a state that has trended more conservative in recent years. Elected to the Nebraska legislature in 2004, Fischer upset two better-known opponents to win the Republican primary. She will succeed retiring Democratic Senator Ben Nelson. Fischer has said she favors repeal of President Barack Obama's healthcare reforms and supports passage of a balanced budget amendment. She also supports more oil drilling and construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which would go through Nebraska. Kerrey was elected governor of Nebraska in 1982. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1988, re-elected in...

America’s voice was quite clear last night. It voted, by a significant margin, for the Republicans to retain strong control of the House, for Democrats to have stronger control of the Senate, and to re-elect the man proven to have no inclination to work with either in such an environment. By voting the way they did, the American people did not vote to re-install the dream of 2008, but voted for the gridlock nightmare of 2010. They voted to support governance without budget, spending without revenue, and executive by diktat, not by the will of the people nor constitutional constraint....

Ted Cruz, a Harvard-educated lawyer and Tea Party icon, easily won the U.S. Senate race Tuesday night, becoming the first Hispanic from Texas to land the job. Cruz had a huge, insurmountable lead in early returns. In early statewide returns, his total was slightly behind Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's total, but the gap represented a relatively low number of split ballots. Romney was beating President Obama by more than 15 points with about 10 percent of the precincts reporting, according to early unofficial returns. The outcome of the U.S. Senate race was never much in doubt. Democrats haven’t won...

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Tea party-backed Republican Ted Cruz has won the race for Texas' open U.S. Senate seat. Cruz beat former Democratic state representative Paul Sadler. The ex-state solicitor general was heavily favored since Texas has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.

Martinez said he obtained documents on Oct. 30 that show more than five dozen requests for absentee ballots from this address, despite the fact there's not a living soul there. He filed a formal complaint on Oct. 31 with the Secretary of State. He told KENS 5 the case has now been forwarded to the Attorney General. "We just want to be sure that things like this are not going on in the future and make sure that people's vote is appropriately counted," he said. Martinez did not provide any evidence that any fraudulent votes were cast as a result...

Early this morning, just as the sun was coming up, I was sitting on a pair of buckets with Tyler Kee in his brand new deer blind when a beautiful love-struck buck wandered into our field following a doe that had run through a few seconds earlier. And as I lined up my scope for what would be the fourth headshot on wildlife in a row, the biggest thing that was running through my mind was “I might be about to make history…” The state of Texas has always made hunting with silencers illegal for game animals. Something about poaching...

Navistar International Corp. (NAV) plans to close its Garland, Texas, assembly plant, as the embattled truck maker shrinks it manufacturing capacity in response to falling demand for commercial trucks. The plant near Dallas employs about 900 workers and has been Navistar's primary site for assembling heavy-duty trucks in recent years. The company intends to cease operations at Garland during first half of next year. Closing Garland is expected to lower Navistar's costs by increasing the utilization of other plants. SNIP Navistar, which also makes military trucks and school buses, has lost $241 million during the first nine months of its...

A lot can change in just four years. For former Florida Governor Jeb Bush a four-year timetable is enough for a significant shift for the Republican party. He tells Joe Hagan of New York magazine: “It’s a math question. Four years from now, Texas is going to be a so-called blue state. Imagine Texas as a blue state, how hard it would be to carry the presidency or gain control of the Senate.” Hagan starts the article for New York magazine with this idea that Texas’ rapidly changing demographic will unfavorably affect the Republican party. He writes: “Sitting down across...

A woman was blocked from early voting near Austin, Texas, last week after wearing a T-shirt that said "Vote the Bible." A pro-family group called Texas Values said election workers told resisdent Kay Hill at the Taylor City Hall polling place in Williamson County her shirt was quote "offensive." She was told to turn the shirt inside out, go home and change, or cover up the words "Vote the Bible." Hill tried to disagree but was eventually forced to cover up her Bible message. Poll workers reportedly provided a jacket for her to wear over the shirt. "It's outrageous that...
