Meteorologists are monitoring as a system with the potential for damaging winds and severe thunderstorms is moving into the region Wednesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple advisories for the region, adding Wednesday's forecast hasn't been seen before in mid-December and is unprecedented. A Tornado Watch was issued for part of the KSTP viewing area shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. If ever there was a region where incumbent Republican governors can experience the great GOP gubernatorial apocalypse, it is the upper Midwest. Three of the races involve Republican incumbents who rode the Republican wave of 2010 into office. They are Rick Snyder in Michigan, John Kasich in Ohio and Scott Walker in Wisconsin. That potential loss of three Governor’s offices may be mitigated by a Pat Quinn Democratic loss in Illinois. The problem is that Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin are less red than Illinois is certainly blue.

FARGO, N.D. – Heavy snow driven by wind gusting to 40 mph brought parts of the upper Midwest to a halt Tuesday, closing courts, schools, businesses and a major highway. Up to a foot of snow was forecast Tuesday for parts of eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota. The National Weather Service posted blizzard warnings and winter storm warnings for wide areas of North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. All three states reported school closings. Minnesota and North Dakota authorities shut down a 130-mile stretch of Interstate 94 from Jamestown, N.D., to Fergus Falls, Minn.

Heavy rain, high winds, hail and tornadoes battered the Upper Midwest over the weekend and a rerun is in store for Wednesday night and Thursday, the National Weather Service said. Sunny skies and cool temperatures today and Tuesday are the calm before a fast-moving jet stream ushers in warm, moist air on Wednesday, setting the stage for atmospheric fireworks that could produce brief periods of heavy rain, damaging winds and even spin up tornadoes, said James McQuirter, a forecaster at the National Weather Services' Chanhassen office. "It looks like a pretty good threat," said McQuirter. As a result, the Weather...
  • Iowa or Wisconsin....Which is the best possible pickup?

If one looks at the last 15-20 polls in both states, it seems to me that Iowa is the best possible pickup of a "Gore" state. While the President may very likely pickup Wisconsin, I think that this is a close second... Comments????

LA CROSSE, Wis. - In 2000, political pundits summed up the race in three words: Florida, Florida, Florida. Here's three words to consider this fall: Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. President Bush (news - web sites) is targeting their combined 27 electoral votes — the same total as Florida, where a bitterly contested recount settled the last election. The trio of upper Mississippi River states narrowly backed Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) in 2000 and are, if anything, slightly more Republican four years later, raising the possibility that Democratic Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) could...
