Indiana Gov. Mike Pence would bring constitutional fidelity, conservative credentials, traditional faith, foreign policy, Washington know-how, and a calm, steady, Midwestern demeanor to a national ticket with Donald Trump, boosting the New York businessman with several types of voters that may prove to be the key to building an electoral coalition that could propel Trump into the White House. ... Pence began as an outsider who served 12 years in Congress and rose to leadership. Pence was an Indiana talk show host who took on the party establishment to get into Congress. The Drudge siren is blaring that Mike Pence is Trump's VP pick. I'm not sure I believe it, though, for a couple reasons. First, if you're a master showman looking to make as big a splash as possible, at least one head fake is required. In illusionist terms, the head fake is the turn, then bringing out the real VP is the prestige. Just picking a guy, leaking the word 24 hours early, and then rolling him out is the least-showy process imaginable. Second, Pence is probably the second-worst available pick on the board. Here's how the veep possibilities should...

Reports surfaced on Thursday afternoon that presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump picked Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice president (VP). “As Trump narrowed in on his choice of Pence, the two men spent time at both Trump’s golf resort in New Jersey in early July and at the Indiana governor’s mansion this week,” Roll Call notes, citing an anonymous Republican source for the report. The New York Times and CBS have also reported the pick is Pence. However, the Trump campaign is denying this is true. 1/2 A decision has not been made by Mr. Trump. He will be...

Donald J. Trump’s campaign has signaled strongly to Republicans in Washington that he will pick Mike Pence, the governor of Indiana, as his running mate, though Republicans caution the party’s mercurial presidential candidate may still backtrack on his apparent choice. Within the next 48-72 hours, we should know who Donald Trump has chosen for a running mate. Some think it will be Friday and others think it will be over the weekend. But chances are, we will know by this time on Saturday (just three days from now) as typically candidates want to maximize the convention news cycle and announcing a few days prior will help accomplish that and build some excitement leading into the convention itself. I have no idea who Trump is going to pick but I do know this: Once the pick is made, there is...
