The narratives of the midterm elections were set when suburban voters turned against President Trump, women racked up record numbers of electoral wins and Republicans dominated rural states and counties. But dive deeper into the results and some more surprising storylines emerge, from familial ties to long shot candidates, expanding suburbs and new battlegrounds. Here are the overlooked stories that didn’t get enough coverage after the polls closed. Did Puerto Ricans elect Rick Scott? When Hurricane Maria left Puerto Rico devastated in 2017, almost 400,000 of the island’s residents moved to the mainland. Many of them landed in Florida, where...

‘They haven’t gotten his job approval over 50 percent, like Reagan,’ says one GOP pollster. Donald Trump insists the GOP’s midterm election shellacking had nothing to do with him. Things will be different, he says, when his name is actually on the ballot in 2020. While it’s true that most presidents who see their party suffer major losses in their first midterm election get reelected anyway, Trump isn’t most presidents — and there are lots of blaring-red warning lights in this month’s election results for his bid for a second term. Unlike most of his predecessors, he’s been persistently unpopular,...
  • Chicago Public Schools enrollment drops by 10,000 students

Chicago Public Schools this fall recorded one of the sharpest single-year enrollment declines since the district’s student population began a steady downturn 16 years ago. The 361,314 students counted on the 20th day of classes this fall represents a reduction of 10,000 students from last school year. That’s a slightly smaller drop than two years ago, when enrollment plummeted by about 11,000 students from the preceding year. The numbers continue a long-standing trend that began in 2003, when total enrollment stood at 434,000. ... Years of falling enrollment, school expansion and choice patterns have left CPS with tens of thousands...
  • Devin Nunes: 'Fourth bucket' of classified emails show info withheld from FISA court

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., revealed the existence of a "fourth bucket" of information related to potential misconduct by the FBI that he wants declassified. On his way out as chairman, as Democrats will take control of the House next year, Nunes said his panel's investigation into the Justice Department and FBI is largely complete. Still, he said the public release of these "buckets" would help give his efforts a sense of "finality." Speaking with anchor Maria Bartiromo on her Fox News program "Sunday Morning Futures," Nunes said the first of three "buckets" were the Russia-related documents President...

It's very easy for media elites in Manhattan to decide that one tweet can prove small towns in Wisconsin are stuffed with racists and anti-Semites. On Nov. 12, ABC, CBS and NBC all leaped on a tweet from a contributor of the left-wing talk show "The Young Turks." It showed a months-old prom photo of a collection of teenage boys from Baraboo High School in Wisconsin who are positioned on the front steps of the Sauk County Courthouse and appear to be giving a "Nazi salute." The town of about 12,000 -- best known before now as the original headquarters...

Did nothing of value as Speaker. Didn't discourage at least half of those looking to retire into sticking around another two years where we could have maintained control. He lined up his K Street job and started throwing bombs towards Trump (which he also did a few days before the 2016 election). Trump worked and saved the Senate and made the difference in some key governor races. Tonight was not a Trump defeat. Part of it was history -- midterm election usually results in out of power party winning. But this was winnable. Ryan blew the House. /rant

The Taiwanese supplier to Apple must meet hiring, wage and investment targets by various dates to receive tax and other ‘performance-based’ benefits Foxconn Technology is considering bringing in personnel from China to help staff a large facility under construction in southern Wisconsin as it struggles to find engineers and other workers in one of the tightest labor markets in the U.S. The company, the Taiwanese supplier to Apple Inc., has been trying to tap Chinese engineers through internal transfers to supplement staffing for the Wisconsin plant, according to people familiar with the matter.

President Trump criticized House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday after Ryan broke with the president on his plan to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants, and said Ryan should be more worried about holding the House in next week's midterm elections.

I know it's often painful to listen to President Barky give a speech. But listen to him speak in Wisconsin the other day. Tell me the guy is not losing it. I queued up the video at the 24 minute mark. The next two minutes are great for a laugh. He's obviously trying to sound natural like Trump, but he can't pull it off. He stammers and can't get his words out. He also overdoes his gestures and tries to speak in various voices. Is Trump in this guy's head or what? Bhaahaha! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taVde5N-GG4

Tuesday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin ripped Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., for his response to President Trump’s statement that he plans to issue an executive order to end birthright citizenship. Ryan claimed the 14th Amendment creates the birthright citizenship and that therefore such an executive order would be unconstitutional. “There’s been no law passed that conveys birthright citizenship onto illegal aliens. There’s been no Supreme Court decision that definitively confers birthright citizenship onto illegal alien children. Nobody’s a hundred percent certain how this came to be. But everybody seems to be a hundred percent certain...

Foxconn’s planned $10 billion electronic display factory in southeastern Wisconsin could be a boon for local workers vying for the potential 13,000 jobs. The facility could also be a headache for other area manufacturers, possibly sparking a heated competition for engineers, electricians, machinists, and other skilled laborers. The talent war could also spell opportunity for organizations that help employers find and hire such professionals. Patrick O’Rahilly, founder and CEO of FactoryFix, believes his company could be well positioned to capitalize on the Foxconn effect, if and when it materializes. FactoryFix is a Chicago-based startup that has developed software to connect...

MOSINEE (CBS 58) - President Donald Trump is coming to Wisconsin. The President is making a stop in Mosinee to campaign for republican candidates. Residents like Curtis Beste say the presidential visit is big news for a small town. “That’s good for us, being a small town and really out of the big city areas, but we have a big enough airport to get some sizable planes in there,” said Beste. He has to work and probably won’t go, but a lot of his neighbors will. “I think it’ll be packed, people are really talking about it,” said Beste. “I...

This year’s high-stakes midterm elections are fast approaching, and much ink has been spilled about a surge in women candidates running for office. Unfortunately, most of the hype has focused on only one type of woman: anti-Trump, pro-abortion, and angry about it. What about the millions of women and men who are eager to see more protections for unborn children and their mothers – who revere the Constitution and want more fair, impartial judges like Justice Kavanaugh appointed? Who is running to represent folks who not only decline the pink hats and handmaid outfits, but are happy about the direction...

Even with the midterm elections looming, Republican leaders in Congress made clear this week they're paying close attention to a looming battle over President Donald Trump's promised border wall. On Monday, House Speaker Paul Ryan predicted a "big fight" over border security on the horizon, while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that the GOP is "committed" to working to secure the funding the President wants for his signature campaign pledge.
