I have noticed over the last few months that the temperature I get for my location from Yahoo Weather on my iPhone is running 3-4 degrees F higher than the actual temperature that I observe through my own equipment or on various thermometers around town. For instance, right now it is 29 degrees F, the puddles are frozen, and the termometer outside my window, the radio and the bank across the street all agree that it is 29 degrees F. But my iPhone is telling me it is 34 degrees. If this just happened from time to time, I would...

Apparently, Apple’s problem (who knew the world’s most profitable company had a problem?... I mean, aside from bendable i-phones?) is that their executives are all “old white guys.” According to Yahoo Finance, the tech sector (in general) is suffering from a minority deficiency. According to Yahoo Finance, you just can’t help but notice that Apple events are essentially one long “parade of middle-aged white guys who came on stage to reveal the company’s latest and greatest.” Strong words for a website that regularly features Henry Blodget, Aaron Task, and Ben Stein. (And Henry Blodget is even barred from the securities...

The service will shut down on December 31 -- just one of more than 60 products that the company has discontinued over the past two years. But the real significance, if only sentimentally, is the shutting down of Yahoo's Directory -- once the cornerstone of the company.

Last week, Breitbart News revealed a secret video game journalist mailing list used by a clique of influential writers, editors, and bloggers, some of whom attempted to bully their colleagues with it in an attempt to shape the news agenda for political purposes. We can today reveal the complete list of journalists, some 150 key industry figures, on the list. Outlets with representation span the entire video games journalism universe and include Polygon, Ars Technica, Wired, Eurogamer, Destructoid, Kotaku, Joystiq, TechRadar, and many other well-known brands in games publishing. But they also include freelancers and staffers for publications as solidly...

WASHINGTON — Yahoo said Thursday the government threatened to fine the company $250,000 a day if it did not comply with demands to go along with an expansion of U.S. surveillance by surrendering online information, a step the company regarded as unconstitutional. The outlines of Yahoo’s secret and ultimately unsuccessful court fight against government surveillance emerged when a federal judge ordered the unsealing of some material about Yahoo’s court challenge. ...

Yahoo News is becoming a daily pimp bulletin board for Democrats and all left wing causes. It actively promotes pro-abortion and pro-gay news items and demeans conservatives and religious causes. Of course this is being directed from the top- the Yahoo CEOs and directors who are large campaign donors to the Obamas and GLTB causes. The nerds at Yahoo pick up "news items" from Huffington Post, Slate etc and highlight the positive spin on left wing issues or amplify the negative accounts on conservative policies and religious beliefs. The same goes for AOL etc. What is the conservative response to...

The GOP has spent most of President Obama's time in office — nearly a term and a half, at this point — calling him a tyrant and dictator. It's been good for business, helping them raise a ton of money and win elections, and so naturally they'll keep on doing it.

Yahoo released second-quarter earnings today, and they depict a company that’s still struggling to find answers for its flagging display and mobile ads business. Investors are trying to hang on to the initial good feelings they had for CEO Marissa Mayer when she took the helm two years ago, but quarter by quarter, they’re finding it harder to do so.

The Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., where the Dave Matthews Band is playing Tuesday night, can hold up to 15,000 people. But as Yahoo and Live Nation see it, the potential audience is limitless. Tuesday’s show is the first in an ambitious partnership to supply free live video streams of a different concert each day for an entire year; more shows are planned by Kiss, Justin Timberlake, Usher and the Neighbourhood. If successful, the program will help establish Screen, Yahoo’s video site and competitor to YouTube. And for Live Nation, the world’s biggest concert promoter, and the rest...

For media companies, the Cannes advertising festival is all about getting face time with top media buyers and advertisers. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer missed a golden opportunity to do just that last week. Last Tuesday evening, Interpublic Group arranged a private dinner at the swanky L’Oasis for Ms. Mayer to meet executives from marketers such as Mondelez International MDLZ, brewer MillerCoors and Greek yogurt maker Chobani. It was supposed to be a chance for Interpublic and some of its clients to get a first hand update from Ms. Mayer on what Yahoo has to offer. But Ms. Mayer was nearly...

Katie Couric’s role as global news anchor at Yahoo is under scrutiny by the Internet company’s honchos — including CEO Marissa Mayer — who are wondering why the peppy former talk-show host isn’t bringing in big-name interviews. “Her bosses are unhappy,” says our source. “They thought Katie was a huge get and that huge stars would follow, with major interviews. Instead she’s had two that are memorable, and one was a book tour.” In Couric’s debut interview for the site, she did a 52-minute sit-down with former Defense Secretary Robert Gates in January. He was promoting his book, “Duty: Memoirs...

Weeks after Google pulled pro-life ads from its "abortion clinics" search results, Yahoo has also followed suit after being petitioned by the pro-choice groups NARAL Pro-Choice America and UltraViolet. "We have found at least some of the ads to be out of compliance with our policies and we are taking them down," CNET quoted a Yahoo spokesperson as saying. "We're in the process of reviewing the other ads and will take similar action if any are found to not be in compliance with our policies." NARAL and UltraViolet alleged that the "majority" of ads that popped up when users typed...

You can ask YahooYHOO +0.11% not to track you online, but the company will no longer listen. snip Some Privacy advocates protested the move. “Yahoo’s decision to flatly ignore users’ Do Not Track requests is a scandal,” said Peter Eckersley, snip “Everyone needs to understand that his applies not just to Yahoo and Flickr and Tumblr, and to the giant network of ads that Yahoo operates across the Web. Every time you see one of those, it sees you too, and tracks you.” This week EFF launched a new software tool, called Privacy Badger, which does block online tracking for...

Yahoo’s recently fired chief operating officer has received a final severance package of $58million after only working at the internet company for 15 months. A new regulatory filing released Wednesday revealed the eight-figure payout that Henrique de Castro was given by his former boss, Marissa Mayer, after she both hired and fired him in just over a year. Mayer dumped de Castro, who was in charge of ad sales, in January after concluding he wasn't executing on her plan for reviving Yahoo's lackluster ad growth.

facebook twitter save more Continue reading the main story SAN FRANCISCO — A British intelligence agency collected video webcam images — many of them sexually explicit — from millions of Yahoo users, regardless of whether they were suspected of illegal activity, according to accounts of documents leaked by Edward J.
