The media has been having a prolonged belly laugh at a group that had the temerity to suggest that the world would end today. Of course it's ridiculous when Harold Camping predicted that the world will be over today, but not when Al Gore predicted that the North Pole would melt in five years. True believers in Gore would say that's the difference between science and eschatology. But when bogus science warns us of an apocalypse if we don't follow the tenets of their ideology, then how much difference is there anyway?
Of course no one expects MSNBC to do sneering reports of global warming activists freezing at a protest or Al Gore being forced to watch a count down of a solidly frozen North Pole. Such mockery is only directed at people who believe in more unpopular forms of apocalypses. At least unpopular at the broadcasting studios of Manhattan. Camping is ridiculous, but Al Gore is right on the money.
The only real difference between Harold Camping and Al Gore, is that Harold Camping believes what he's saying, while Al Gore preaches one thing to his followers, but lives a lifestyle in direct contraction of it. The Vice President turned Prophet of Gaia lectures on watching our carbon footprint and then flies on jet fueled carbon wings to another concert on behalf of the planet. Other aspiring prophets like Prince Charles, who admires poverty, but lives in privilege, are no better.

The only way that Harold Camping and Al Gore compare is that they are both certifiable. Who cares how much they believe in their idiocy. It is still idiocy.
Amen!
I guess the icecaps are melting and moving to Vail.
This is like my fourth end of the world Rapture thing.
My boss told me that at 6:00 tonight, every worthy soul was going to ascend to Heaven. And I would have to clean the whole kitchen alone.
Those that truly amaze me are those who will accept that this was a simple math error, and continue to believe.
This is not a new thing... Going to be a bussload of hung over believers tomorrow all over the place.
I hate few things other than communists; And the world not ending on schedule.
Global Warming on Free Republic
Matthew 24:6 KJV And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye
be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
From Operation Sunshine - under the North Pole ( Re USS Nautilus ) : " On 19 June she entered the Chukchi Sea, but was turned back by deep draft ice in those shallow waters."
That was 1958. This year these waters are ice free in mid-May, and have been so at this season in recent years. The North Pole came close to melting in the summer of 2007, and the trend is definitely that way, even if there are reprieves.
Just sayin'
Everyone knows...the end of the world ends in “d”, always has and always will...
Hey! I want my money back! I had a front row seat.
Don't be silly. Everyone knows D was MDXII years ago, but the world is still here.
Harold Camping believes in God,he just takes thing a bit out there.Eventually and I mean this in the most complimentary fashion, his time to ascend will come.At least he believes in something more concrete then just about anything,in his following of God.
As for Al Gore,he is a lost soul up creek without much of a paddle. He came off as brilliant man once and maybe there was something concrete behind that facade or not.
Adversity for both these individuals will show the truth of their character. The smart one is the one who calls on God first.I doubt it will be Mr.Gore.
Second, the ice thickness in May which is increasing:
While this data only goes to 2000 it is quite relevant to the "global warming" discussion since that was supposed to be occurring from ~1980 to 2000. Second it shows the extremes of natural variations which is why your single 1958 data point is useless.
We have had ice ages, the ice receeded, came back. All before man.
Man made CO2 is .28% of the atmosphere. NOTHING man does can change the climate. It is a result of what happens on the sun.
Just sayin'
