U.S. District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter ruled on Tuesday that county boards of election may no longer reject mail ballots that lack accurate, handwritten dates on their return envelopes.
Judge Paradise Baxter was appointed by Donald J. Trump. So who was pushing this clown?

Mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania without accurate handwritten dates on their exterior envelopes must still be counted if they are received in time, a judge ruled Tuesday, concluding that rejecting such ballots violates federal civil rights law.
The decision has implications for the 2024 presidential election in a key battleground state where Democrats have been far more likely to vote by mail than Republicans.
In the latest lawsuit filed over a 2019 state voting law, U.S. District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter ruled that county boards of election may no longer reject mail ballots that lack accurate, handwritten dates on their return envelopes. Baxter said the date — which is required by state law — is irrelevant in helping elections officials decide whether the ballot was received in time or whether the voter is qualified to cast a ballot.

I was under the impression that only state legislatures can change a state’s election laws. Not Federal judges.

I don’t fault Trump for this, as he was likely just having a subordinate pick out possible appointments because...he likely delegated that and had to trust advice before approving the appointment.

Isn’t this ruling logical on the facts in view? If the ballot is received by election day, the missing date makes no difference, substantively, though it is a process error. What am I missing? It may have been filled out I guess too early?
The answer to that idiot is NO. And when the time comes, fire and jail anyone willing to comply. As I tell people in my office, the Nuremberg excuse (“I was only following orders”) got a lot of people hung.
Pennsylvania’s election law is so poorly written that it requires a written date to be marked on the ballot envelope, but it doesn’t even require the date to be ACCURATE. So a ballot mailed in 2024 would be considered valid even of the date on it is July 4, 1776 or February 31, 2024.

This had been appealed all the way up to SCOTUS.

The U.S. Supreme Court earlier Tuesday(Oct 2022) had declared as moot a decision in May by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that had said mail-in ballots without a required date on the return envelope had to be counted in a 2021 Pennsylvania judge race.
The set aside mail-ins flipped the judge seat from Repub to RAT.
Gotta hand it to Obama - he was relentless in his pursuit of stacking every nook and cranny of American officialdom with hard core Leftist and nobody has been more creative at funding them with taxpayer money to enable their fundamental changing of America.
