A complex central network of filamentary structure spirals down to the center of the galaxy. Astronomers say it provides new insights into super-massive black holes. It is more likely that it demonstrates electrical effects.

I suppose it’s possible. I don’t know that much about Schwarzchild’s solution to offer an informed opinion. I can’t call it impossible, although it seems unlikely. Wouldn’t electrical discharges, even plasma, smit characteristic spectra?

The inevitability of gravitational collapse into a black hole is a simple consequence of E = mc
2.
Realizing that pressure, as force/area, represents an energy density, as energy/volume, we see that a certain pressure within a volume, R3, will give rise to a mass, M = pR3/c2, which will create a gravitational pressure, GM2/R2
So, as soon as
GM2/R > Mc2 or GM/c > R ,
we have reached a point where pressure created within the volume in order to resist collapse, creates enough mass to overwhelm itself by gravitation, and collapse accelerates.
This simple analysis gives the Schwarzschild radius except for a factor of 2.

It’s no “catch” at all. The back-of-the-envelope analysis ignores “factors of order unity” due to integrals of variable quantities and geometry. It says that, whatever the details, it’s got to come out close to this. A factor of 2 is pretty close, and in fact amazingly close to my way of thinking.
The key point is that gravity will overcome any resistant force whatsoever, and this is evident from the basics of Einstein’s theory. Picking over Schwarzschild’s solution is not going to change anything.
