A strange spot emerged on Venus last week, and astronomers are not sure what caused it. They hope future observations will reveal whether volcanic activity, turbulence in the planet's atmosphere, or charged particles from the sun are to blame.
Amateur astronomer Frank Melillo of Holtsville, New York, first spotted the new feature, which is brighter than its surroundings at ultraviolet wavelengths, on the planet's southern hemisphere on 19 July. That same day, an amateur observer in Australia found a dark spot on Jupiter that had been caused by a meteoroid impact.

No paper on Uranus?
If this turns out to be a bad thing, Obama inherited this problem from Bush.

Not with sunspot activity in particular, but with solar activity levels, which can be primarily determined by sunspot numbers. Right now we are at weak solar activity levels which correlates to a weak solar wind. The weak solar wind is letting in more cosmic rays which causes more clouds on earth and cooling. Now you could also look at the solar wind as a directional force vector that would tend to push or force small objects that our solar system is traveling pass, away from the center of the solar system (sun). A good way to visualize this is to hold your palm flat out the car window while driving. Now angle the front of your hand up and the force of the wind will push up on your hand. Now these solar wind forces also compete with gravitational forces. Another possibility is that increased cosmic rays also apply as yet unknown force factors to the asteroids and comets within the solar system. At any rate, we live in interesting times indeed.
