"Using sophisticated seismometers and global positioning systems, scientists have been able to track minute movements along two massive tectonic plates colliding 25 miles or so underneath the Puget Sound basin.
Their early findings suggest a mega-earthquake could strike closer to Tacoma and Seattle than earlier thought.
[snip]
Earlier calculations creating a virtual earthquake using a supercomputer indicated that such a mega-earthquake in the Northwest could result in ground motion of 1.5 feet per second in Seattle, nearly six inches per second in Tacoma, Olympia and Vancouver, and three inches in Portland. That would be more than enough to cause major damage."

Hang onto your hat.
No doubt put a kink in the Democrat vote counting machinery!

That'll smart.
MOVE NOW!
Many major cities are threatened by earthquakes.
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other parts of Calif. are vulnerable to big quakes. San Diego has some smaller fault lines.
Salt Lake City is on an earthquake fault.
As mentioned, Seattle and Portland are vulnerable in the Pacific Northwest.
The New Madrid Fault in southeastern Missouri can produce large quakes. A major quake there would cause some major damage as far away as St. Louis or Memphis.
Charleston, South Carolina sits on a fault line.
New York and Boston sit on fault lines too, but experts think quakes there would be milder than quakes elsewhere.
The periodicity of this shaking between Stumptown and Vancouver is about 300 years. The last hit was in 1700. It's now 2009 ~ time to MOVE!
Could provide the boost Linux needs...
Seattle is so screwed if/when it hits. Their highways are elevated waaay up above the ground. There infrastructure is complete toast when it happens.
Oh fiddle - won’t happen for another three hundred years .... or next week whichever comes first ....
Question: Are earthquake computer models better or worse than climate change forcasting models?
early findings suggest a mega-earthquake could strike closer to Tacoma and Seattle than earlier thoughtGotta be due to global warming, the Exxon Valdez, and the Bilderbergers.
