I had no idea I'd be pulling massive amounts of bullets. It's like watching my 401K shrink (again). I probably paid $100 for those thousand rounds 32 years ago (I found a page of 1978 newspaper at the bottom of the can).
So the 1800 rounds of .45 ball has suddenly become 800, and I have more mouths to feed. I hustled and bought another 1000 from ammoman.com, but it's costing me as much as another "nice" Sig or Kimber. Still, ya gotta eat.

Glad the collet puller is working out for you. Those old presses can handle most anything. Ammo from 1978? hmm. Yep I got some too. Still have .22s and shotshells from my high school days.

This was the FN .45ACP from 1955. It was put in a GI ammo can in 1978.
I scrounged through my remaining disorganized ammo. I found another 500 rounds of 7.62mm ball, which is good. But I recounted my .45, and I have only 600 rounds of ball left, which is only about four trips to the range, max.
I have another thousand coming in, but I think I'll have to order another increment of 500, especially if .45ACP is now the "new .380" as far as availability goes.
When I was at the range last week, I kept getting bonked on the head and back by someone shooting a new Glock on the firing point on my left. Only a new Glock will throw empty brass over the top of an eight-foot divider. When they left, I picked up their .40S&W brass, and an aftermarket front sight for the Glock. I guess they didn't notice it got shot over to my side, too.
On my right, two guys were firing a 1911 for a while, and then switched to an AR15. Since they were on the last firing point on the right, I guess the brass was bouncing back at them a lot. So they packed up and moved to the left. They were going to throw away the .45 brass, but I told them that I'd be happy to clean up after they moved.
This was the first time I came back with 3x the empties I started with.
Kudos on the brass, it doesn’t take long to accumulate a fair supply just by a bit of diligence and being helpful in keeping the range floor clean.

Now that your old green RCBS press is set up just add the dies, scale, powder measure and you are in business. Components are somewhat more available these days, though not at the Pre-2008 prices. Still far cheaper than factory.
When I clicked on this I was half hoping it was a mass-produced toy ahead of TheNewMovie.

The way their last target looked, I'm not sure they knew what sights were for. As Eddie Murphy said in I, Robot, "what do you do, just close your eyes and use The Force?"
I'm running late(r) on my "Saturday night" article, so I'll leave it for tomorrow as a Sunday supplement. I've got a grip screw jammed to the bushing on the Kimber Covert, so now I have a $300 Crimson Trace laser with one screw and bushing attached, and no way (so far) to get it off. I just put in an "emergency" order to Brownell's for rescue gear. I'll put on a new bushing, and stake every last one of them on the whole herd of 1911s so this doesn't happen again.
Just as the whole project was approaching a satisfactory conclusion.

I took Warhorse and the Sig P229 with the .357Sig barrel I fitted to it. Both have recently had a version of a "short" trigger fitted, to help me do a better job of shooting. Here are some typical results:
My tendency to throw shots to the left has decreased somewhat with the shorter trigger reach. I still have to work at some bad habits, but I'm getting better results with less work on my part.
As far as I can determine, the latest time Warhorse could have been fired would be the 1930s. It may have been last fired in WW1, after which it fired my great-uncle home. So the results are not too shabby after all that inactivity, and my results at technology upgrades.
The only problem in firing 50 rounds of GI ball was one stovepipe. I just flicked it away with my finger, the slide closed on a fresh round, and everything went normally. I'll be installing a more modern "aggressive" ejector to prevent a recurrence. This is one reason for test firing your work.
This was also the first, and probably the last, time I fired any weapon using the .357Sig round. It isn't a difficult round to fire, like I found with the .45ACP +P, but it's still a substantial round, as was intended. Being a .357 bullet on a necked-down .40S&W case, it's just about the equivalent of a .357 Magnum. Someone must think it's the cat's meow, but I'll pass. At least I have a barrel, and the remaining 450 rounds to use if I ever need that caliber again.
Other than that, the Sig showed less tendency for me throwing shots to the left, but it wasn't grouping as well as the .45. I'll attribute that to my inexperience with .357Sig round. Still, it was satisfying to see my barrel-fitting efforts work properly.
There must be something about these "semi-oddball" rounds. I came with a box of 50, and went home with 51 pieces of brass. I expect to spend a lot more quality time with the Sig when I put the .40S&W barrel back in. It may be my best compromise for my "hot weapon" for a combination of weapon ergonomics (vey important IMO), magazine capacity, and acceptable ballistic performance.
