The tiny horseshoe spring clip on the right side of the axle rod can be a problem because it's so small. It took me about an hour to do the first cover, and ten minutes for the second. I needed my watchmaker tools to get it done.
First, I put a clean yellow cleaning cloth on my lap, so I could find the clip when I lost it (a dozen times). It was no fun looking for it on the floor, which I did the first time. Rotate the clip so both "legs" are pointing up. Put the tip of a jeweler's screwdriver on both legs, and push down on both until the clip comes off, and falls into one of the many crannies on the upper. Turn it over, and let that little clip fall on that yellow cloth.
Pull the axle pin pit about 3/4 of the way. That lets you remove the coil spring, and slide off the old cover. Slide on the new cover and spring, making sure to wind the long leg of the spring once, so it's pushing against the inside of the cover, while the short part of the spring pushes against the upper receiver. Push the pivot rod all the way on, and test that the cover works properly.
All that little clip does is prevent the removal of the pivot rod. Take some teeny tweezers, and try to put the clip over the little groove in the rod. Push down on the middle of the clip until it pops into the groove. It does not take much force, just a lot of dexterity. You're done.
It's not a tough job, just everything is so tiny.
Sometimes I can hear of see where the part landed, but then it takes another random bounce or roll. Often I'll buy $5 worth of tiny parts for some weapon while I'm online buying major stuff at Brownell's. Some of these tiny parts cost under a dollar, if you have them on hand, so adding them to the list might save my butt at some future time.
Another good policy is to buy the "rebuild kits" that contain every single small part, pin, and spring to make something work again. This is a good idea, especially if you have more than one of a model. But buy a few more parts than that of parts you know you lose easily.
This goes double for classics that aren't in production any more. If it does go down, you'll take it easier if it was a major part that you could not predict, rather than nickle-dime parts you could have bought for next to nothing ages ago.

Whew! I got all the plants in before the first pitch. That ficus sure likes spending the summer behind the fence. I might need to get another string of lights to cover it adequately this Christmas.
Dang, you think it will get that cold tonight? I’ve brought in a few plants, but the majority are still outside. They are on the porch, so maybe they’ll be protected, or maybe the weathermen will be wrong, again.
OB and I still haven’t turned on the boiler, just having fires on the brisk nights. The first time the fire department turned up. Some passerby saw the smoke coming out the chimney and called the FD. So the FD rolled, Dan let them play with their thermo-imaging stuff, and they were happy. And our house was not burning down. :)
I had a ficus once that I had to buy new strings of light for every year. I can’t remember what happened to it, probably didn’t bring it inside soon enough one year :(
Hasn’t this wind been fierce? Jackson came in very early tonight. I think the little guy is just plumb wore out.
This ficus survived the 20 degree temps during the ice storm power outtage. This spring I pruned the rootball and put it out behind the picket fence. It had roots in the ground when I moved it this afternoon.
I haven’t brought in the rosemary or the lavender yet. I think I’ll bring a bunch of aloes to werk...free to good homes. Or I guess I could just process them for hand lotion.
I’ve had the heat on a couple of times...got it on now. I need to change the filter without the kittehs getting in the crawlspace.
I gave up and turned the heat on this morning, it was 60 degrees in here, and Annie was screaming.

The sunroom is filled with plants and I didn’t even put the ficus in there (it’s beside the TV.)
Looks like it didn’t freeze last night. Good wind though...it cleaned all the branches off the roof. I still have the Branch of Damocles still hanging.
