Health officials have added more than 100 illnesses to the cyclospora outbreak linked to McDonalds salads, bringing the total number of cases to 163.
Illnesses have been reported by 10 states, according to the latest update by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Three people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. The median illness onset date is June 28. The Food and Drug Administration continues to investigate which ingredient in the salads was the vehicle for the outbreak.
McDonalds is cooperating and on July 13 stopped selling salads at more than 3,000 locations until it could switch suppliers.
The fast-food chain ceased sales in 14 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Because of the proactive actions McDonalds took to remove the affected salads from the locations in these states, there likely is not ongoing risk to consumers who eat at those McDonalds locations, the CDC said in its update.
The company reacted quickly after the Illinois and Iowa health departments issued news releases July 12 that said numerous illnesses had been reported by people who reported eating salads at McDonalds before they became sick.
At this time, the FDA and CDC have no evidence to suggest this outbreak is related to the outbreak linked to Del Monte vegetable trays.
In the outbreak linked to Del Monte vegetable trays, 237 people have been sickened. Seven people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
The FDA continues to investigate which component of the vegetable trays is the vehicle for that outbreak the trays contained broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and dip.
That’s it, I’m sticking to the fries. They’re sterilized in hot oil.
Vegan , the healthiest way to eat
Lettuce the spanish word for toilet paper ?
I don't frequent McD often, except when on the road. Good coffee. But Chic fil A when I want to eat and available.
As a business, fresh veggies are extremely risky, in terms of risk of pathogens as well as government response and subsequent financial liability.
I really doubt the margins compensate for that.
How do you get your B vitamins?
Their fries taste like dirt now. They must be using a salt substitute.
“How do you get your B vitamins? “
He was being sarcastic. :)
“How do you get your B vitamins?”
Beef. Beats lettuce every time.
LOL!.............
A couple years ago I gave up eating salads in cafes west of the mountains in Washington state after having some unpleasant next-day digestive occurrences.
I think that there are too many -in the case of Washington state migrant Hispanics and in Minnesota as an example Somalis- people from low-hygiene countries working in fast food restaurants and cafes.
I meant east of the mountains in Washington state.
Who the f*** goes to McDonald’s to eat a salad?
morale:
trying to eat ‘health’ food in a junk grub dispensary...
may be like trying to find a virgin in a whorehouse
McDonald’s.... salads....? People eat those?
so.....given that MickeyD’s is a worldwide enterprise, is this a world-wide issue or is the USA just incredibly lucky?
Seems like a contaminated food issue every week lately (not just MD)
