Rising sea levels may build, rather than destroy, coral reef islands
EurekAlert! ^ | November 13, 2018 | Northumbria University

Rising global sea levels may actually be beneficial to the long-term future of coral reef islands, such as the Maldives, according to new research published in Geophysical Research Letters. Low-lying coral reef islands are typically less than three metres above sea level, making them highly vulnerable to rising sea levels associated with climate change. However, research has found new evidence that the Maldives - the world's lowest country - formed when sea levels were higher than they are today... They found that large waves caused by distant storms off the coast of South Africa led to the formation of the islands approximately three to four thousand years ago. These large waves - known as high-energy wave events - broke coral rubble off the reef and transported it onto reef platforms creating the foundations for the reef islands. At the time, sea levels were up to 0.5 metres higher than they are today, which gave the waves more energy. This means that higher sea levels and large wave events were critical to the construction of the islands.

Imagine -- coral reefs can only form *under* the water surface. How near-fetched!

You know, the God who created coral wasn’t stupid.

“Rising global sea levels”

What does that even mean? Compared to what? Is there a “normal,” or “mean” sea level somewhere?

Then there are studies by “experts” that says we are losing the ocean do to subduction in the Pacific.

Sheesh.

Good thing the president of the Maldives spent all of the money he got from other countries to mitigate sea level rise on building an airport for luxury tourism from India.

Great news.

Man-made global warming will save the reefs.

Bad news. There was just a study that the oceans are being gobbled up by the subduction zones.

The Oregon coast hasn’t changed a bit than since I was a kid. No sea level rise. If they’re the same here, then they’re the same everywhere.

...

There’s no way he gets away with that unless he’s sharing the loot with the crooks who gave it to him.

Rising land areas are created *by pumping incompressible sewage into impermeable layers of clay thousands of feet below some communities; however, a switch to seawater for flushing is suggested.

*Total speculation on my part. ;)

More of that “God made global warming” I guess. Perhaps the dem house will pass laws ordering God to comply with Algore’s mandated max carbon footprint.

"First, what rising sea levels? Where?"

In the computer models. That's more real to the GW cultists than actual reality.

Theoretical conclusions based on manufactured false hypotheses.

The moon is made of green cheese so if a large asteroid hits it the earth will have rain of cheese causing an explosion in the rat population, thus women, children and minorities will be affected most by the rodent dangers.

Trump’s wall will keep the rats in Mexico, causing more harm to the noble savages who only want to come here to help diversify our culture and take care of our lawns.

Life has never ENDED with climate change in all the history of the world, because LIFE writ large changes with climate change. While some conditions disadvantage some things, other things are advanataged. Why do humans occupy just about every temperature nich on the planet? Because they are survivers, they adapt. And humans are possibly now better capable of mitigating the effects of and adapting to “climate change” than we have ever been in all past history.
