The Clinton’s knew the secret to winning, you can win with less than 40% of the vote if you have a 3rd party candidate. Had Trump ran as a 3rd party, she would have had it in the bag. She wanted Trump to run, but he went Republican, thus no 3rd party to drain the votes. The brain numbs were her biggest supporters which gave her the chance to win it.
