How to get rid of visceral fat: Following this eating pattern could reduce the belly fat

HOW TO get rid of visceral fat: This type of body fat is deemed harmful because of where it’s stored in the body - the abdominal cavity - so what can you do to reduce it? Making changes to diet has been shown to help, and following a particular eating pattern has proven effective.

Visceral fat’s location within the abdominal cavity means it surrounds vital organs such as the liver, stomach and intestines. If visceral fat is left to build up here, a person’s risk of developing serious health problems, like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, is increased. Related articles

Eating a poor diet has been linked to visceral fat build up, so making changes to the food you eat is advised.

When it comes to an overall diet to follow, a particular eating pattern has been shown to help get rid of visceral fat - intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting.

One low-carb diet which has proven particularly effective at getting rid of visceral fat is the ketogenic diet.

Ketogenic diets drastically reduce carb intake and replace it with fat, putting the body in a natural metabolic state called ketosis.

I can’t do keto as I hate meat. Not a vegetarian as I do eat some meat. I have lost 42 lbs. Since mother’s day by counting calories and walking 10,000 steps a day. I’ve lost 5 inches in tummy. I now feel bad if I don’t get my steps in. Positive habit formed!

Also, meeting the diet’s requirements means cutting out many healthy foods, making it difficult to meet your micronutrient needs.

This is patently untrue.

You can chug bowls of broccoli, cauliflower and the like because the carbs are mostly fiber carbs. Slathered with butter, of course.

Highly processed carbs are the bad stuff.

For example, a cup of broccoli has 7 grams of carbs in it. You could eat 10 cups a day, and it's mostly non-reactive carbs.

The issue is the sine-wave glycemic reaction from processed carbs [read up on "glycemic index" and "glycemic load"].

Fat has a glycemic effect of zero - making the glycemic reaction a straight line rather than a sine wave.

Protein and fat both tend to delay stomach emptying, thereby slowing the rate at which carbohydrate can be digested and absorbed. So a high fat meal will have a lower glycemic effect than a low fat meal even if they both contain the same amount and type of carbohydrate.

I've maintained a ketogenic state for over 3 years now. Lost the excess weight within the first 6 months but I feel way too young and sharp while in ketosis to ever stop the way of eating. All the aches and pains of old age along with brain fog come back with a vengeance if I fall off the wagon.

The best no nonsense keto resource I've come across is the Keto reddit faq, and the forum is great inspiration.

“Fasting is a form of calorie reduction.”

Yes and no. It’s goal is not to reduce calories but to reprogram your body to allow your hormone system to start working again - assuming you have screwed it up by eating too much too often for too long.

As I’ve done it, I find myself CHOOSING to eat less because I don’t crave food all the time. This in turn reduces calorie intake.

Intermittent fasting is different from keto, although many do both at the same time. I’ve eliminated most flour and sugar from my IF diet, but eat lots of vegetables and don’t have a problem is my meal includes a buttered potato. I don’t worry about carbs per se BECAUSE I eat one big meal a day, plus a snack 4-5 hours later.

IF has taught me an important truth: My body can handle going without food for 18-24 hours without a problem. Being a little hungry is very different from having cravings!

I believe we're talking about High Fat, Medium Protein, Low Carb.

Bacon fat and butter will serve the purpose of the High Fat. You can intake your Medium Protein in other ways. Actually, too much protein on this diet will have an effect similar to processed carbs - it gets converted to glucose, and then fat on YOU.

Actually, almost ALL diets work - some better than others, but almost all work. The problem is people want to quit their diet and go back to eating the way that made them fat. If you don’t want to gain it back, you have to change lifestyle.

My Mom in the 1960s was an expert at losing 15 lbs. She did so 3-4 times a year, then would quit her diet and gain it back. Rinse, repeat.

Do you monitor your blood sugar?
It sounds like the medication is making you too low at times.
I take 1/4 of what I was prescribed at this point or, I would end up in the hospital.
A doctor cannot tell you what you need hour to hour week to week, you have to figure it out.
Don’t let them get you hooked on Benzodiazepines for anxiety either.
The addiction is worse than narcotics, wish I didn’t know...

Drugs kill and, doctors kill us with drugs.

See what you can do with your behavior above all else..

“Eat anything you want, drink anything you want just do it in moderation and exercise. Diets don’t work.. never have and never will because food isn’t the problem, people are.”

Sounds just about what people have been told as the obesity/diabetes epidemic exploded.

“I am sure you found lots of studies that wiki censored ...”

There are some smaller studies showing the effectiveness of the diets, but actually, the strongest studies seem to be those that were NOT looking for the link between low-carb and weight loss, and diabetes reversal. They stumbled into those results and people like Nina Teicholz managed to find them.

“I can see why you have not been posting much on low carb lately when I see the comments here.”

LOL - no, the comments don’t bother me. Everyone has a choice: Either believe what the (Big-Carb sponsored) media tells them, that is after spending 3 years telling them that Trump colluded with Russia, or believe the dozens of people on my ping list, each of whom has absolutely NOTHING TO GAIN by relating their personal stories, along with the doctors who have put their own careers on the line.

“Simple, just follow this diet: If it tastes good, you can’t eat it. “

Personally, I like avocados, cheese, meat, and nuts...all Keto foods, by the way.

“Mayo’s verdict: While the ketogenic diet may be recommended for some people with uncontrolled epilepsy, the high fat content — and especially the high level of unhealthy saturated fat — combined with limits on nutrient-rich fruits, veggies and grains is a concern for long-term heart health.”

Now, if they were only telling the truth about saturated fat, perhaps I’d believe them...but their not, they need customers after all. Perfectly understandable.

” A lot of interested parties would like that article locked down. I read it, and it is as you said. Very negative and dismissive.”

Yea, my guess (only a guess) is that the Leftists there know what will happen if people go Keto - that means lots more livestock, and they’re virtually at the point of pushing to outlaw meat. It’s a political clash, really a death match, as they see it.

The key from a nutritional standpoint is to get the saturated fat from the meat that you do eat, as that is, by far, the healthiest type of meat for Keto types (and it doesn’t take much). After that, there are plenty of options for Keto-friendly foods, starting with nuts for example.

“I’ve maintained a ketogenic state for over 3 years now.”

Let me guess, BIG KETO put you up to saying the above, since we all know being on that diet longer than 6 months is not humanly possible.

...but then, just who is Big Keto? I can tell you who Big Carb is (the processed food industry, the environmental groups demanding we outlaw cows), I can tell you who Big Diabetes is (the medical, nutritional, and drug industries), and Big Obese is (Weight Watchers and the rest). But I’m at a loss to know who Big Keto is...about the only ones benefiting from Keto are a small handful of book authors, doctors, and of course millions of Americans.

Anyway, GREAT JOB!

“If it tastes good, you can’t eat it.”

“Calories are those things Nature puts into food to make it taste good.”

Not a joke, think about it. Did primitive humans survive by eating grass?

No, they practiced catch, kill, cook, & eat, which BTW is in the title of most of my favorite youtube vids.

You name it, someone is throwing it on the grill or in the skillet.

I have lost 85 pounds since January 15. I was on two metformin and two Glipizide a day. Now my A1C reading are 4.9 most of the time; the reset between 4.7 and 5.0
