How did Spain get its coronavirus response so wrong?
The Guardian UK ^ | 3/26/2020 | Giles Tremlett

It is one of the darkest and most dramatic moments in recent Spanish history. In the chilling table of daily dead from the coronavirus pandemic, Spain has taken top position from Italy - with 738 dying over 24 hours.

Spain is now the hotspot of the global pandemic, a ghoulish title that has been passed from country to country over four months – starting in Wuhan, China, and travelling via Iran and Italy. As it moves west, we do not know who will be next.

What went wrong? Spain had seen what happened in China and Iran. It also has Italy nearby, just 400 miles across the Mediterranean and an example of how the virus can spread rapidly and viciously inside Europe.

Yet Spaniards cannot blame that proximity. There are no land borders with Italy, while France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia – all countries that are doing much better – do have them.

This may, in fact, be one of the reasons for the country’s late response. Spain thought it was far enough away. “Spain will only have a handful of cases,” said Dr Fernando Simón, the head of medical emergencies in Madrid, on 9 February. Six weeks later he gives out daily figures of hundreds of deaths. The number of dead per capita is already three times that of Iran, and 40 times higher than China.

On 19 February, 2,500 Valencia soccer fans mixed with 40,000 Atalanta supporters for a Champions League game in Bergamo which Giorgio Gori, mayor of the Italian city, has described as “the bomb” which exploded the virus in Lombardy.

In Spain, Valencia players, fans and sports journalists were among the first to fall ill.

Yeah, soccer players all getting sick. Lot of close order drill in those locker rooms. The locker rooms they show of the teams on TV during game days, those suckers are tiny. Barely enough elbow room to put on their jerseys.

There are only three of the 18 teams in the Spanish premiere league any darn good. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Athletico Madrid. The other 15 mainly suck year to year. One or two of them will pull an upset over the big 3, but that is about it, those three.

This year mighty little Eibar is doing okay!! English Premier league has six to 8 teams that are good year to year, with usually an upset type team. Paris-St. Germain is far and away the best of the Frog's top league. Then there the other 18. In the German top flight, Bayern Muenchen (Munich for those who do not speak-in-zzz-dejoice), Dortmund, Red Bull Leipzig, Belorussia Gladbach, maybe one or two other battle for that 3rd position.

I hated the coverage's of the leagues this year. Since Direct-stupid-TV dropped BNSports, we lost coverage of the Frog league, Spanish league and Serie A in Italy. ESPN (the stinking bums) got to put on some Italian league games, but it was mostly sorry team vs. a more sorry team. I saw weeks where there were some good games on the schedule and ESPN put on a game with the two worse teams in the league instead.

Fox lost coverage of the Champions league. With FS1 and 2, we got four Champions league games on Tuesday and Wednesday (two games each channel) when they were playing. Now we get one or two games being carried on Turner channel 245 on Direct-stinking-TV. How did Fox get outbid for the Champions League???? Good grief. I have missed watching Messie playing the past two or three years on BNSport since Direct_well you know, was dropped. Direct always said they were working on bringing them back but never did. Bums.

I'm a old codger and don't know all these Internet channels that carry these games on the Internet that Algore invented. And, I am not going, can't afford it, get Internet channels at $45, 55 or 60 bucks a month to go along with the massive stinking Direct-YESSSSSSSS, STINKING-TV bill. Cannot drop it because our local cable and even Dish, do not carry the channels, three I think, that my wife watches all the time, and you know that if Mama ain't happy, life is going to be hell, so I pay for those on Direct-FREAKING STINKING LOW LIFE UTTER SLUG SLIME TRAIL, TV.

Geeze, Thelma and Louise, Maranatha!!! Come quickly LORD Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably Trump's fault in some way or other.

But hey at least they removed Franco from his tomb.

If you ever get a chance watch a movie called The silence of Others A lot of the people in that movie are still alive. Hard to imagine by being here now how brutal life was just a short while ago.

They locked down everything like they did in Italy and locking down doesn’t work, it exasperates the problem... Sick people infecting healthy relatives, and then those relatives infecting others... Italian deaths and Spanish deaths continue to escalate even after being locked down... So lock downs are obviously mistake.

Japans economy is fine... No lock downs, except for schools, they travel in subways packed like sardines as usual, go to restaurants and bars, business as usual.

Japan: 160+ million people and 47 deaths.

Italy: 60 million people and 8,000+ deaths.

Do the math folks... These lock downs are nonsense being preached by the same people who brought you global warming.

Most of our debt though is what we owe to our selves(both the states and the federal)...and that is the whole “sneaky pete” of the problem.

Because we can grow things and still have lots of resources we can pay our foreign debtors by the sale of those things. Most of our public debt though is to ourselves and our future progeny. The populace have debts to private entities mostly and of course there are taxes to pay.

You may have missed out one vital factor with Japan:: Face Masks.
Japan Singapore and SKorea made them compulsory.

The Guardian “can’t understand” how this could have happened to Spain.

Well, the Spanish Socialist Gov’t urged it’s supports out to Women’s marches on March 8 to celebrate abortion, LGBTQ and all the rest of it.

Spain’s main hot spot is in the Madrid area where the biggest marches were.

Yet Rome seems to be relatively unscathed, compared to other parts of Italy.

Not so fast.

The Japanese capital registered 47 new coronavirus cases Thursday, its biggest single-day rise...the spiraling stats are so troubling an expert government panel released its most dire analysis ever today, saying it is "highly likely" Japan will see "rampant" infections.

This really is because we are testing more, and publishing the findings for the world to see.

Unlike say... uhhhh... China!

Having been monitoring some of the traffic coming out of China, everything official coming out of China is totally false!

As well, we also had CV-19 earlier than most Americans know, or have “learned”.

(Intentional)

*Symptoms were “flu like”, we were unaware, and there had been no test for weeks, early on.

Even now, the only way to get a grip on real numbers, would be universal and repeated testing (as incubation can go from a couple days to weeks), like is now the policy of South Korea and Israel.

This was also always the best and fastest way to deal with CV-19, and to get the economy really rolling again. The problem was, and is, we just don’t have the test kits yet.

As such, the US baseline number of CV-19 carriers are totally wrong to begin with. We are only just beginning to learn this.

The mass media and press will 100% blow this up as exponential virus growth, (and it is growing), but this is an opportune sensational story, which can and will strengthen the hand of the anti-American global socialist Democrats, who will see this as another way to attack and hurt Trump. HHS and the left-wing deep state, are already doing another IG investigation on Trumps handling of CV-19, to try and find any “mistake”.

Therefore, they will seize this ready made low hanging fruit!

Watch!

There was a meme showing a timeline of the Coronavirus cases in North Korea. Every couple of minutes it would go from 1 to 0 to 1 to 0...

Has Spain’s economy been on track anytime since 1700 or so?

Probably not but some bad economies have been better than others. In 2008 they essentially lost a generation as working age people left the country and, as things did get better, they didn't come back. After many years of population loss it started stabilizing and the kids were sticking around. Now it's heading for the toilet again.

How does Spain manage to have free health care?

Average MD salary in Spain: $40K
Average MD salary in the US: $218K.

With all the other spending proportional. Yes, the knee surgeons in Spain don’t drive Ferraris.
