How many of you have ever known someone who had died of or been hospitalized with known or suspected flu?
Vanity | August 22, 2020 | Me

I have seen vanity threads periodically over the past few months in which Freepers have asked other Freepers if they know anyone who either got or died of COVID-19.

I have no criticism of these vanity posts; in fact, I've posted responses to a couple.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone ask if anyone knows anyone who has died of the flu or had to be hospitalized with it EVER, so for some perspective I'm asking.

Of these people, how many were known to have had the flu due to a positive flu test and how many were suspected to have the flu in that they did not test positive for it but their symptoms were consistent with the flu during a period when the flu was prevalent in their area and tests did not turn up positive for any other identifiable illness?

I’ve seen a few people post claiming to quote some doctor that said nobody ever actually dies from influenza and that all the death stats are made up because no doctor anywhere has ever lost a patient to flu or heard of any doctor who has.

Conspiracy theory nonsense, frankly. To hear some people tell it, no one has ever died of anything. We were all created yesterday and will all live forever right here on Earth. Any evidence to the contrary is part of a global conspiracy trying to mind control you or something.

I’ve had flu and pneumonia. I don’t know anyone with the kungflu. I go out every day with out a mask and the mask I wear when forced to, has air holes for breathing ( a cool airsoft mask.)

I’ve been wondering. If someone has the symptoms and they had not been taking Vitamin D3, Magnesium and Zinc, if they begin with high dosages after they get the symptoms, will it be helpful or is it too late?

flu’s been getting mentions in covid-mad Australia:

22 Aug: Brisbane Times, Queensland, Australia: ‘It is most likely to be COVID, not flu’: Top doctor urges testing
by Lydia Lynch
Brisbane and Ipswich residents with a runny nose or a sore throat have been told they are more likely to have COVID-19 than the flu.
Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young has urged people, even with very mild symptoms, to be swabbed for coronavirus following an outbreak at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.
“I can clearly say, in Brisbane and in Ipswich, if you have got symptoms of the flu, it is most likely to be COVID, not flu,” Dr Young said.

“We have got very, very little flu in our community and we do have these seven cases of COVID...

18 Aug: Age, Victoria, Australia: Lockdown won’t ease if testing rate continues to drop, Premier warns
By Sumeyya Ilanbey
Authorities say people with cold or flu-like symptoms are likely to have COVID-19 because the common cold and seasonal flu have “virtually disappeared” from the state...

In the seven days to Monday, pathology labs processed 154,432 tests – a drop of almost 30,000, or 17 per cent, compared with the previous seven-day period...
Professor Sutton said social distancing and hygiene measures meant the seasonal flu in Victoria had “virtually disappeared”.

About 3000 people die each year in Australia as a result of the flu, ***which has an effective reproduction rate of 1.5, compared with COVID-19’s average rate of 2.5***. The level of immunity in the community to coronavirus is much lower than to the seasonal flu.
There have been 438 deaths linked to coronavirus nationwide, with a vast majority in recent weeks as a result of Victoria’s second surge...

btw “WITH COVID” still gets an occasional mention:

I encounter people who get the flu every year. I don’t know anyone who has died from it. I take a barrage of vitamins and stay healthy, and maybe that helps. But, it seems like every year I neglect to get a flu shot, I get the flu. Obviously, I manage to always come in contact with people who have the flu. That’s why I try to make sure I get a flu shot. I’ve had it enough times that I certainly don’t want to get it again.

I have a friend, a recently retired Army Armor officer -- a robust guy -- who was "knocked on his butt" for a couple of months by pneumonia that started with flu... That was two years ago.

If this were really the pandemic they’d have us believe, we’d be seeing DAILY videos of hospitals full of people looking like they’re straight out of Dachau...

Has ANYONE EVER seen footage of people “dying” from Covid?

If it is what they want us to believe, you KNOW that they’d be broadcasting it 24/7.

...they aren’t.. they haven’t... they can’t. It’s just not the killer they’ve sold to us.

How many diagnosed with the flu died of blood clots, destroyed lungs, kidney failure, or heart damage? How many displayed short-term memory loss, lack of the ability to concentrate, extreme exhaustion that lasted for weeks after they “recovered,” severe GI disturbances that continued for weeks, amputations because of blood clots?

These may be rare complications of COVID but they’re occurring. Even some people who supposedly only were mildly ill are finding it difficult to return to work and are suffering long term symptoms they thought would have gone away. This is called a novel virus because nothing like it has ever been seen before. People who dismiss it as a mild, upper-respiratory or flu-like illness are either stupid or ill-informed. This virus isn’t either one.
