We used Gate 1 Travel. The tours are all guided and there is safety being in a larger group.

Suggestions:
-Robben Island
-Table Mountain
-The Peninsula tour. Takes all day, is beautiful and safe
-Victoria Wharf for shopping and restaurants

Avoid being alone or a small group and be in by sunset.

I went in 2008. I’d never go now.

If you are going up on Table Mountain for the view, go early in the day, because clouds often come in the afternoon.

They used to have an awesome scuba diving option, to get in the water inside a cage, for a shark feeding. Hard to find elsewhere.

I hear the Cape Buffalo is very good eating.
Try the zebra as well. The Elephant soup is very good.
Monkey brains are only good if they are fresh.... : )

A friend of mine visited a few years ago (2018) with his family. They rented and drove from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town (“Garden Route” I believe it’s called). A very scenic drive. No incidents. And they had a great time.

M-4 my ass. Carry an M-60, and make sure your vehicle is equipped with a Ma-Deuce.

If you have any interest in plants Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden is really interesting and well done.

Of course Table Mountain, but the drive down the peninsula to the Cape is awesome.

We drove all over and had no problems in Cape Town.

The drive east towards Hermanus is a great coastal route and very civilized.

Yes I went with a church group in 2017 to south africa.

We were a group of about 50.

We didn’t have any problems. While in Capetown we also did the things on your list except for Robben Island

But our tour guides were the best.

I lived in Manhattan for about 15 years. There I developed what can be called a predator radar. Donald Trump has the predator radar in spades. But I think most everyone who lives there develops it to one degree or another.

I left Manhattan in the early 1990’s. Since then my predator rarely goes off.

In south africa my predator radar went off maybe a dozen times over 10 days. Its lousy to feel like a prey animal.

Our guides did a good job of keeping the group just outside of real danger.

Even with the animals in the game reserves. At one point our tour car stopped right beside a group of maybe 6 lions feeding on a giraffee carcass. There were probably another six lions resting in the grass—whom we could not see. But occasionaly one would lift its head.

There the sense of being in a bubble of protection provided by the tour car was palpable. If one were to be so fool hearty as to step out of the tour car and walk on the ground seperate from the tour car—the lions would pounce.

That’s what a good tour group guide will do for you in South Africa. Keep you in a protective bubble. But you have to never forget that you’re in a bubble.

Step outside the bubble, and unless you made of the right stuff and have some real skills and equipment—you are prey.

Losing South Africa to the Marxist Left Excrement that dominates Ex-Colonial Africa is a tragedy of Global Proportions.

However it is done, and I doubt it can be undone.

My concern is that sharpee returns safe.

Great post on Manhattan and being “prey”.

I used to visit relatives there and it was super high stress for me.

That is my view of all large cities these days.

I am retired so I have the luxury of avoiding all cities.

Life is too short to waste any of it in fear of your surroundings.

Yes, it is that way for all large cities in the USA these days.

Murder rates are on par with the most dangerous cities in the world.

All my vaccinations are up to date. Yellow fever card is not needed. I did find out that the Yellow fever vaccine is good for life. My travel doctor did recommend typhoid vaccine.

Thanks for the advice. Table Mountain is on the schedule. Looking into Robin Island but that will take some time. I will look into the Peninsula tour.

Diving with the sharks is an option. It is not scuba it is more stand in a cage and put your head under water to see the sharks. It takes about 4 hours and if you get real sick there is a $500 fee to take you back to land.
