Classic TV Commercials from the '60s and '70s
Tom Waits Lyrics
“Step Right Up”
Step right up, step right up, step right up,
Everyone’s a winner, bargains galore
That’s right, you too can be the proud owner
Of the quality goes in before the name goes on
One-tenth of a dollar, one-tenth of a dollar, we got service after sales
You need perfume? we got perfume, how ‘bout an engagement ring?
Something for the little lady, something for the little lady,
Something for the little lady, hmm
Three for a dollar
We got a year-end clearance, we got a white sale
And a smoke-damaged furniture, you can drive it away today
Act now, act now, and receive as our gift, our gift to you
They come in all colors, one size fits all
No muss, no fuss, no spills, you’re tired of kitchen drudgery
Everything must go, going out of business, going out of business
Going out of business sale
Fifty percent off original retail price, skip the middle man
Don’t settle for less
How do we do it? how do we do it? volume, volume, turn up the volume
Now you’ve heard it advertised, don’t hesitate
Don’t be caught with your drawers down,
Don’t be caught with your drawers down
You can step right up, step right up

A guy I know, who was born the same year as you, went to work for an advertising agency right out of college. I don’t remember the name of the agency, but they had the Jolly Green Giant account. One of their characters was the Little Green Sprout. He said he was working on “Sprout Phones”.
A google search shows there was such a thing, presumably actual telephones that actually worked, around 1984. You can buy them on ebay.
That Indian dude is some Italian actor. Espera Oscar DeCorti
When I was stationed in England 1973-1976 they had some great commercials.
While I'm not familiar with "sprout phones" I worked for Leo Burnett for 8 years starting in 1995. My youngest son was the inspiration for the reinvigoration of the Jolly Green Giant Ads in 1997 - 2000 when I brought him to the office as a 2 year old and he recognized "the big green vegetable guy" that was on my home office wall.
What a thrill it was to work for that iconic ad agency when I did. Still miss it to this day. I departed (against my will) in May 2003 after recovering from my 4th major lower back surgery and having to learn to walk again. Still miss that place. What a great time it was to work there. I had a corner office looking up Wacker Dr. and the Chiago River and it was the thrill of a lifetime to work for such a legendary advertising agency!
I am still friends with my CTO (of which I was a direct report) and saw her just a few weeks ago f or dinner with my now fiance.
I think so much of my ex CTO that I sought her approval for my fiance, since my CTO knew my ex-wife. Go figure.
I loved Charlie the tuna.
All those white people, glad they purged TV commercials of that racism.
I was thinking about that SNL skit. Bill Murray and Loraine Newman on the phone calling people asking if they want to be Peppers, as if they were a cult.
Sadly, Six Finger was not included.
But, Iron Eyes Cody was in there. Too bad he was not an American Indian. Must have voted democrat.
...sodium cyclamate...
I wonder if that stuff was/is bad for ya.
Ha! 1962, I was born the same year, October. My mom use to tell me because I was born the Cuban missile crisis happened. LOL!
LOL! And dancing down the street with the head nod “Im a pepper your a pepper” lol lol I tried finding it on Youtube but they dont have it. They use to have the most ridiculous commercials back then. Remember the coke commercial “I like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony” Whaaaat? For SODA??? That one I found.......

What a trip down memory lane.
The only commercial I don’t remember was the Budweiser one near the end.
The Green Giant is gay as hell.
It takes two hands to handle my Whopper !!
I was born in November, 1962 so yes the Cuban missile crisis was your fault, ROFL!
“Once upon a time there was an engineer
Choo Choo Charley was his name we hear
He had an engine and he sure had fun
using Good N’ Plenty Candy to make his train run...’’
Do you remember that one?
