Billionaire shipping magnate Angela Chao knew she was about to die as she sat trapped in her car after reversing it into a pond while three times over the drink drive limit, police have revealed.

The sister-in-law of Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell was pronounced dead at the scene after her Tesla SUV was hauled from the water on her 900-acre ranch in Texas on February 11.

She had previously been confused by the gears on her Model X and mistakenly put the car into reverse after an evening with close friends at a lodge on the estate.

Excellent observation.

I totally agree with your post #19, also.

[They all chose poorly, and it cost her, her life. The New York Post said she was heading back to the main ranch house from the guesthouse, as her 3 year old son was sleeping there. I’ve been a mother for 58 years, and never once, especially when my children were young, did I ever drink and drive because I had the responsibility of being there for them 24/7. The only reason I can think of that she willingly chose to get inebriated is because she had the luxury of a babysitter or nanny to care for the child.]

People die all the time for very pedestrian reasons . Think of the guy who fails to clamp a piece of wood he’s working on, has a kick back on his circular saw, nicks his femoral artery and bleeds out. Or the woman who has one too many, takes a swim in her in-ground pool, drowns. Being mindful of subtle day-to-day dangers is how people live to a ripe old age.

Asian-that drunk? Too American.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say. Can you expound a little?

Drunk Asian Woman Driver..

I was a police officer for 25 years and the vast majority of drunk drivers I saw were white men.

She didn’t accidentally drink all that alcohol, and as I said in a previous comment, she had a 3 year old son asleep at the house she was going to. The fact that Angela was 50 with a son that young, and not 20, makes a big difference. She should have known better. She didn’t. Ever heard of the Darwin Awards. She’s a shoo-in. Do stupid things, win stupid prizes, or lose your life.

No.

It sounds like a good “so that’s all there is to it” story.

Indeed. There are old people and there are reckless people, but very few old, reckless people.

William Shatner’s wife drowned in her home’s swimming pool with a BAC lower than this lady’s. Just bad judgment on her part.

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1999-oct-13-me-21923-story.html
[LOS ANGELES — Final autopsy results show that Nerine Shatner, the wife of “Star Trek” star William Shatner, had been drinking heavily and taking sleeping pills the night she died in the swimming pool of her Studio City home.
The former model and aspiring actress, who had two drunk-driving convictions and had been treated several times for alcoholism, had a blood alcohol level of .27 percent, more than three times the legal limit for driving, according to autopsy results released Tuesday.]

I remember when that happened. I hadn't realized she'd had a drinking problem, or been in and out of rehab.

My oldest sister was an alcoholic. By the time she was 28, she'd been in and out of alcohol rehab, and was eventually institutionalized within a state psychiatric center. The State tried to place her in a home, but my sister's personality was not conducive to that type of living arrangement, and she was sent back to the psychiatric center. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and dementia caused by alcohol consumption. When she reached a certain age, they moved her to an adult assisted living home. During her years at those homes, she would act out, and be sent to a psychiatric ward in the city hospital for a week for evaluation. To her it was a vacation, because she had one-on-one catering service, getting the attention she wanted. I always figured that she probably knew that if she got into trouble at the home, that she'd be sent outside for a week, and that was what she wanted.

She remained in an adult home until she passed away in 2014. She was 74 years old. And it's likely she wouldn't have lived that long had she been left out on the street. The blessing was that she'd never married or had children, so she didn't have anyone who depended on her. I lived about 4 hours away from where she was, and I used to visit her, along with my second-oldest sister, and my sister-in-law (brother's widow) as often as I could. We'd take her out to lunch and then take her shopping. She was the last of my siblings to go. I was the baby of the family, and will be 77 in August. My only goal in life now is not to outlive my two sons.

That would certainly explain what happened. There really is no other explanation. The next question is why was drinking so much and where was she going?

Mitch has friends who could clear that obstacle for his kids. I wonder how much Mitch’s patronage the last 30 years has meant to the Chicom family business? Since Mitch shot down Trump, I’m sure he’s made millions hand over fist shipping what was left of MAGA back to China.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That’s a bit of a mystery.... some sources say that she and Breyer had a 3 year old son and some say that that she had no children. Wikipedia seems to indicate as much detail as any sources about this... it suggests that Chao and her husband were living in New York (which was where she was born) plus splitting time in San Francisco, but decided to move to Austin during the scamdemic and ended up buying a house in downtown Austin and the ranch where she died.
She would have been 47 when her son was born... not impossible of course but a bit strange (she and Breyer got married in 2012). I suspect that like any very rich couple, they simply were being protective of any information concerning their son and that’s why all the conflicting reports.
