‘Remorseless’ Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison — as judge rips him as power-obsessed scammer

A Manhattan judge ripped Sam Bankman-Fried as a “remorseless” scammer obsessed with political power as he sentenced the fallen crypto mogul to 25 years in prison Thursday — five months after he was found guilty of stealing more than $8 billion of funds from customers of his now-bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

Judge Lewis Kaplan said the 32-year-old convicted fraudster “presented himself as the good guy” all in favor of “appropriate regulation of the crypto industry” — but it was just an “act.”

“He did it because he wanted to be a hugely, hugely political influential person in this country,” Kaplan said, blasting him as “remorseless.”

“He knew it was wrong, he knew it was criminal, he regrets that he made a very bad bet about the likelihood of being caught,” he continued, as Bankman-Fried stood in front of him with his hands clasped tightly at his waist.

Moments before the judge handed down the lengthy sentence, Bankman-Fried apologized for making “bad decisions” that “failed everyone I care about” — but maintained his actions “weren’t selfish.”

“At the end of the day, I failed everyone that I care about and everything that I care about, too,” he said at the hearing in Manhattan federal court.

Wow, stole and squandered hundred of millions of dollars and he got a whole five years more than a guy who DIDN’T go to DC on January 6

I’m surprised. He donated heavily to the dems and I thought one of them would have some kind of power to get him out of this fix.

Oh well. They got the money. He has the time.

Well, he had a lot of fun while it lasted. And the Democrats are still thankful for his donations. What a guy!

Maybe they promised a 2025 pardon whether or not Biden wins. The Dems can’t be seen as letting one of their top 2022 donors be punished or it may dry up future sources of revenue.

Not that I’m a fan of crypto by any stretch, but I suspect this little turd has set the whole idea of investing in it back by AT LEAST 10 years.

Corzine stole $2.5bln from customer accounts and didn’t even get charged. His defense should have been pointing that out. Same crime.

I’m not for him being free, mind you. I am for Corzine sharing his cell.

The suckers are still lining up to get fleeced.

When the history of Bitcoin is finally written historians will be howling with laughter.

“The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin”
2014

I watched this documentary a while back, it’s available on many streaming services free.

Give it a watch if you are so inclined....I found it really interesting.

While I suspect it was meant to paint crypto in a positive light, what it did for me is confirm my suspicions as to what it really is...in a word......SHADY.

Good riddance. SBF managed to be best-in-class when it came to combining arrogance and leftist cluelessness. He came up with the phrase "effective altruism" - as if all efforts at charity before him were incompetent - but he didn't feed hungry children or house homeless women or treated suffering veterans. He used other people's money to blanket Congress with his "effective altruism" bribes. And yet he sounds like he sincerely believes in himself.

He reminds me of the warning CS Lewis gave, that the worst of all tyrants are the jerks who honestly think they are caring for you while they ruin your life and destroy your freedom.

If you think crypto is shady, you should compare it to the alternative.

Really, a decentralized open-source protocol on a public ledger is about as far from shady as you can get. The fact that people can use crypto for criminal purposes doesn't make it shady.

I assume all you crypto skeptics are pro-gun control. Because you know, the gun/crypto is the problem, not the criminal wielding it. And if you ban guns/crypto, then the problem will magically vanish. /s

Kaplan is the judge who twice found Trump liable in the E. Jean Carroll phony sex abuse cases.

The prosecutors asked for 50 years, Kaplan cut that in half. Bankster-Fraud stole hundreds of millions. It’s actually a low sentence for that kind of cash. You can be assured that Kaplan wasn’t going to totally destroy the life of a co-ethnic and a fellow Rat party stalwart.

He may have even left some crumbs for an appellate court to follow leading to a reversal or reduction. SBF will eventually get his time at Club Fed reduced as his Stanford Law family will continue the war to spring him. And he will find judicial allies the whole way.

Doubtful, I do however see a presidential pardon coming from the big because Fried knows to much about the people he gave bribes to..........or then again we may just read about another tragic suicide by a high profile prisoner.
