So it turns into a Hyundai Excel, which is second in awfulness to the Yugo? I knew mechanics that would run to the bathroom and hide so the service writer wouldn’t assign an Excel to them.

If a new car costs 50k, then that means you have a budget of $5000/year to pay a good mechanic/service dept. to keep your old one in top shape.

Buy a TOYOTA.

'nuff said. Love my Tacoma!

“would that fall under this law?”

Sure could when they mandate use by law.

“One cannot turn off GPS????”

There are two forks of this question. First we will help welcome it in ourselves because the government will give auto insurance companies tax credits to offer reduced rates “for safe drivers.” This is tracked by GPS so to get the insurance price reduction GPS will have to be on perpetually.

They are already now offering this very price reduction right now and you have to allow them car and phone GPS and data access to get the reduction from them.

And there will be enough idiots who will jump on this that it makes the whole industry follow suit and it become an industry standard. The insurance companies and US fools will do the government’s work for them. Some industry standards soon become mandated because everyone already accepted them anyhow. We will enslave ourselves just to save a couple bucks.

The second fork is this... Just like a cell phone, it might allow you to “think” you have turned off GPS. When in turn it is always on and your carrier is collecting that data in real time anyhow like it or not. Every feature your phone has is being monitored by carriers and the government if they like. GPS, Camera, Microphone, Bluetooth, Fingerprint from fingerprint unlock feature, Images, Contacts, Text, Etc., all of it.

And all this same wireless tech will be used and monitored on cars like it or not. If you think it is off or not. What information they can’t get from the car they will get from your personal tracking device cell phone which is synced with by bluetooth and WiFi throughout every neighborhood you travel through and your car. There really is not any way to hide from it but to drive a car that does not have the tech and Faraday your cell phone.

In fact soon it will be a law to allow government access to all of it in real time. They are already secretly doing it, They just haven’t legally mandated it in writing yet.

“I wish I had resources you got. Me, I got just me, and very few possessions.”

Wait... Let me share something extremely important. You have the best of the battle already won. The very first challenge is to break from social norms and become a serious minimalist with only a few very needed possessions to worry about dragging around with you. 90% of the battle to freedom is break the addiction of status symbols and toys. Most cannot and never will. You actually have 99% of the battle won already.

This is what I am doing now. We have sold off all our possessions except for the very minimal needed to survive. We are going mobile with just the van and a high clearance trailer to carry only what we need to get by in a survival situation. The property is paid for and the “cache” I speak of is just minimal tools and such we will need to survive fairly well in an off grid situation. Tools to work wood, metal, dirt, and Etc. That is all.

Since you are already a minimalist and almost there have you considered going mobile and living the RV lifestyle? Buy a cheap undeveloped plot of land in the mountains to park on and live the simple life away from society?

And we did it to ourselves. We just could not live without all those neat new shiny tech toys...

So you are saying that the car GPS which actually is just a real time tracker and connects with onstar technology whether you pay for it or not and can actually listen in since it has microphone and speakers capabilities .

And that even if you turn off Bluetooth and wifi on your phone and putting the phone in a Faraday you are still broadcasting via the car electronics and it is not just the doohicky aerial on top of the car but broadcasting via on star...which I understand has electronics in the wheelwell in my vehicle?

I could. I hate the electronics. I would buy a good solid non electric care in a heart beat. Like my old 84 saab 900. Hell I liked rolling windows up and down. Have never in 40 years used cruise control

Pity there are not rebuild shops that would resurrect and service the old favorites.

Btw I knew and stated that Obama’s buy back was going to imprison us.

Very few current vehicles have steering-by-wire. Most do have electric power steering assist now, not hydraulic.

“So you are saying that the car GPS which actually is just a real time tracker and connects with onstar technology whether you pay for it or not and can actually listen in since it has microphone and speakers capabilities .”

Yes, absolutely. they have already been caught at it. And not just by satellite. It also makes data connections to the “internet of things” like business and home routers, WiFi, bluetooth in other cars, and even “ring” cameras. They can literally watch you drive around and have video of it from home Ring cameras.

In fact there are app services you can get to track your teenagers and old folks with. But these apps are just using the technology all the carriers are already using whether the app or device is off or not.

“And that even if you turn off Bluetooth and wifi on your phone and putting the phone in a Faraday you are still broadcasting via the car electronics and it is not just the doohicky aerial on top of the car but broadcasting via on star...which I understand has electronics in the wheelwell in my vehicle?”

Yes except if you have the device in a faraday, battery removed, or the battery in the car is unhooked/dead. A faraday will disable the connection. If the device or car has power it is hooked to the internet of things and tracking everything you do with either your device or your car and sharing it all to both collection services through Satellite, WiFi, and bluetooth.

Your phone is spying on your car, and your car is spying on your phone. And the powers that be can spy on both in real time whether you like it or not. And those who are parked around you close. It is all tied together.

There’s the external stub antenna and usually the film antenna on windshield or rear window but OnStar will sometimes still work with cell and GPS antenna connections severed if cell tower signal is strong.

“Hell I liked rolling windows up and down. Have never in 40 years used cruise control.”

Absolutely, same here. I am not too lazy. when i was growing up pickup trucks only had “on/off” for as heater control. Climate control was born of pure laziness and not wanting to turn a button on or off as needed. THAT is where it all started. Automatic climate control was the beginning of the tech explosion. Everything tech after was to satisfy the human trait of laziness and “convenience”.

“Pity there are not rebuild shops that would resurrect and service the old favorites.”

Yes, I do it for a living, but these shops are far and few between. Hard to even find an auto machine shop to do engine machining anymore. Current society just wants to throw them away and buy a new one.

So tragic.

There is something pure and good about mechanical engineering.

It stands on its own.

How wonderful that you are able to do this. You are fortunate!

Thank you for the kind words. But I pretty much didn’t have a choice. I was born into it. Dad had a grocery store, two gas stations, an auto repair shop, and a towing/wrecker company when I was born. It was pretty much prearranged destiny. lol

But with all the years of hotrodding, racing, and motorcycles it has indeed been a fun occupation. And as this mess gets worse I realize the knowledge and experience I can share is going to soon become priceless.

Won’t be long and we will be like Cuba where they have no choice but to keep up and hand make parts for old old cars just to have any transportation at all.

If your car has GPS, it’s a simple software matter to geofence you and restrict your movement if the government desires it. Think Climate Change restrictions that they are about to introduce. Odd/Even driving days, limited miles per year etc. It’s coming soon.

All GPS is, is location. How far are several satellites, and you know where you are. It needs other software to do that.

That’s what I said. It’s a simple matter of software! It’s already there, you just don’t know it.

It needs other hardware also. The GPS receiver doesn’t have any connection to anything to control it.

“All GPS is, is location”

I like sentences where the same verb or preposition appears twice in a row.

Ha me to. Makes you feel like a master of the language when you do something like that that is actually grammatically correct.
