Very interesting...
Immigration voting record = F
In 1996, removed higher fines for businesses which hire illegal aliens
Sen. Thompson, in committee consideration of S.1664 protected businesses from having to pay higher fines when they are caught hiring illegal aliens. Under the idea that current fines were not enough of a deterrent against businesses cutting their labor costs by hiring illegal aliens, the Senate immigration subcommittee approved higher fines.
Various study commissions have found that the willingness of U.S. businesses to hire illegal aliens is the No. 1 incentive for foreign workers to become illegal aliens here. But Sen. Thompson voted with a 10-8 majority in the Judiciary Committee to remove the higher fines from the 1996 legislation against illegal immigration.

If true it would do serious damage to his chances.

Almost as bad as Bush’s inaction on immigration...

Fred Thompson lacks the fire in his belly necessary to be President. If handed to him, he might do it. His thymotic needs can be easily solved by taking over the Paul Harvey radio slot.
I just don’t think he is going to run.

Afronaut, what planet are you on??? He got A+s on enforcing immigration laws, and a C overall.
If you think he’s weak on immigration, you are free to point out is numerous bad votes. But saying he got an “F” when he got a C is beyond the pale.

Immigration voting record = F
Not good.
Not true, either.
The onlly “F” he got was for failure to “Reduce unnecessary visas,” by which NumbersUSA largely means H1-B visas for specific jobs requiring exceptional takents, training or education.
He received a C for his immigration record, and two A+s for combatting illegal immigration. And his votes do not reflect his positions which he states shifted dramatically after the WTC bombings.

I’ve got no axe to grind in this but I can sure tell the difference between an “F” rating and a “C” rating when I read it.
What’s with the misrepresentation?

Yep, looks like a C to me. I think the F you saw ends up being part of the word Fax Congress...

"Glorius Ronald Maximus is the one to open the door to amnesty". Don't you think it's a bit unfair to leave out the portion of the law regarding employer sanctions in order to be able to say this about President Reagan?
Regards.

I, for one, would not be happy with a “C”. But we will wait and see what further info rattles down the pipe. I don’t consider Thompson to be that bad of a candidate, definitely better than the big 3.

You are correct! The F is a misplaced letter from the word Fax.
And I am not even Drinking!
Still not to promising of a record.

I know, a B or A would be better. But C is at least better than an F, and better than I would give to W at this point regarding our border......

I don’t think so. He can certainly argue to the issue in its relevancy today. The issue is much worse now than 10 years ago and as such permits for the reevaluation of his opinion.
To: ARE SOLE
Sure.
But my point is that even the highly annointed Reagan could be critisized on immigration policy
