Fox Morning: Debt deal will involve Repubs folding
Fox News Live | 7/31/11

Posted on 07/31/2011 6:28:45 AM PDT by pabianice

Per discussion this AM about the debt ceiling/tax cut proposals, several congresspeople say deal now involves making sure it would go past the 2012 elections and would mean one dollar cuts for each two dollars of debt ceiling increase, with immediate cuts being tiny. Looks like the Repubs are folding.

That's the same "deal" that Reagan and Bush 41 cut with the RATS of their day.

Oddly enough, the cuts never materialized and the 'Pukes had their asses handed to them.

Somebody ping The Republican Party. If you cave now, you're toast in 2012. You might as well give standing firm a shot. At least you'll have a shot at getting re-elected. Otherwise, sayonara.

I thought this was an original requirement only if the total budget cuts didn’t exceed the debt increase. It seems the part about automatic additional cuts if not agreed to would cover this.

Frankly, I’m getting a little tired of this “caving” talk. If it were not for these pubbies that are accused of caving all the time their would not even have been a show down on this debt ceiling. It would have quietly passed months ago on a voice vote or motion for unanimous consent.

Further, if not for the pubbies we would have been subject to who knows what new spending proposals over the past year. If anything, even if if they totally caved (which they have not) they at least focused the nation on spending and debt rather than what additional federal programs would be really neat to have.

“deal now involves making sure it would go past the 2012 elections and would mean one dollar cuts for each two dollars of debt ceiling increase, with immediate cuts being tiny. “

Bah, that’s what the Dems wanted, but saying they’ll get it doesn’t make it so.

Every Saturday before a big topic is discussed on the Sunday shows the media always have a “hot” leak that shapes the discussions so the Republicans are off point.

Surprise, it happened again, just like always.

Look, the reality is that the elected Republicans and the Democrats are in fundamental agreement on the following: The Money Power of Congress includes the creation of fiat, credit-based money; the proper function of the Federal Government is to expand the monetary base, tax incomes, and fund "programs" that redistribute incomes from work and employ otherwise unemployable people.

The reason the "Tea Party" is under such concerted attack from both elected Republicans and Democrats is that they (possibly) do not share these fundamental premises, which are the foundation of the post-1933 American state.

The elected Republicans, and the Democrats, also share the belief that even a reduction in rates of increase in "programs" will trigger violence on an almost unimaginable scale.

The reason they don't do what normal, psychologically healthy people would do under threat - say, "Bring it on and we will shoot you down in the gutter" - is because elected Republicans and Democrats also share the belief that socialism is basically RIGHT and that capitalism is fundamentally WRONG.

So, it is wrong to say that the Republicans are "folding" - they do not share your fundamental beliefs and they never did.

They are just doing what they must to keep their dying world alive for a few more years.

If they fold, they must have decided to become as irrelevant as the Whigs

Sen. McConnell: ‘Very close’ to debt-limit deal

“McConnell said the deal would call for an increase in the nation’s $14.3 trillion in borrowing authority plus $3 trillion in spending cuts. The debt limit would be raised in two stages, with some sort of mechanism to increase the ceiling again next year.”

"The elected Republicans, and the Democrats, also share the belief that even a reduction in rates of increase in "programs" will trigger violence on an almost unimaginable scale."

When the ponzi scheme fails, which it inevitably will, the fit will truly hit the shan. Only the Dems can reform welfare (medicare, medicaid, etc.) without massive riots, and they won't because then they would have no constituency, and the Repubs can't/won't due to riot fears, so we must wait for the ponzi failure which will likely destroy many lives, both of current recipients of $$ and those victimized by the lawlessness that will ensue.

Yep, the slight hit that Barry is taking in the polls in July, 2011, is a bargain for the boost he’s getting to get through November, 2012.

There are still threads on FR where posters earnestly believe that Boehner and McConnell are on our side, negotiating as well as they can with only ‘half of a third of the government’.

They MUST hold in the Senate or it is lost. It goes back to house, it passes with dems support which will mitigate the tea party votes. When that happens we can thank the COW, the two sob sisters in Maine, the guy with the pickup truck in Massachusettes, McBraindead, McTunnelvision, and a few other lackies in the senate GOP.

Frankly, we don’t have the firepower to stop this IMO. I wish we had more Rubio style gopers in the Senate but we have what we have...useless as teats on a bull. What really irks me is the dems vote as a bloc in both houses and we have goof balls who cave in yet the GOP gets called the party that won’t negotiate...this is all nothing but mental masterbation.

You wrote: ““McConnell said the deal would call for an increase in the nation’s $14.3 trillion in borrowing authority plus $3 trillion in spending cuts.”

$3 trillion??? That’s nothing but a sneaky gimmick —in the works for a LONG time-— negotiated behind “closed doors” waiting to be presented at the last possible minute in order to stampede the FEARFUL into agreeing to be willing to vote for it. (Just like TARP)

July 30, 2011
Senator Harry Reid (D.NV) budget plan contains sneaky gimmicks for stealth tax increases ($3.8 trillion)

http://dailycaller.com/2011/07/30/analysis-says-reids-budget-plan-contains-gimmicks-that-could-result-in-tax-increases/

NOTE the reference to the ‘baseline’in the above-linked article...this refers to the ‘baseline budgeting’ scam run by the federal government and is the primary source of the upward curve of federal spending. The few ‘cuts’ we ever get are nothing more than reductions in the future growth of spending. Of course Congress will add additional increases to account for inflation and flavor of the month projects to their already assumed baselne. This also enables the Leftist DemocRATS to demonize those who propose spending cuts even though such cuts are always cuts in growth of spending; never actual cuts from a previous year.

Unless the electorate soon stops this crooked game that is at the foundation of our spending problems the whole thing will collapse under its own weight.

It’s very simple to fix. Demand that Congress simply wipe this manner of budgeting off the books. Its only been in effect since 1987 (when Congress amended the definition of the “baseline” so that discretionary appropriations would be adjusted to keep pace with inflation. They’ve just kept adding to the baseline.

‘some sort of mechanism to increase the ceiling again next year.”’

The Dems want to structure the deal to make the increase politically impossible to stop: make debate futile and pointless and the media won’t cover the issue.

I can’t believe Boehner and McConnell would destroy their Party by agreeing.

If what we hear about the framework of this deal is correct, I believe a significant majority of the House GOP will stand firmly against it. If this is what President Obama really wants, he should be careful what he wishes for.

There is no way this bill represents the sense of the GOP-dominated House. Any bill that passes with less than a significant majority of GOP House members onboard may be a tactical victory in the short-term for the President, but it will be a major strategic blunder for him.

And here’s why: Boehner 3.0 had 90% GOP support, and for that reason, it would have given the President the lifeline he desperately needed. Obama would have been viewed as the bi-partisan champion, the adult in the room, and the major Tea Party leverage would have been gutted going in 2012.

If they instead come up with a deal that passes the Senate, goes back to the House where they get 100% of Democrats and just enough GOP defectors to get to a one vote passage, the outrage will be unbelievable. The ensuing political tidal wave will make a Rick Santelli rant look like Mister Rogers Neighborhood by comparison.

It will energize the GOP base unlike anything we have seen since 1980, and as Obama proved in 2008, an energized base and GOTV is the key to victory. It will ensure Obama’s defeat.

The “cave” was Boehner 3.0. The Dems foolishly did not take that gift. Now, they give Boehner cover, and the House will be united.

You are 100% correct. The Republican leadership will cave. Democrats will agree to budget cuts that will never materialize. It is the Lucy with the football cartoon all over again. However, Conservative have an important ally. It is the invisible hand. “By a continuing process of inflation, government can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens.” - John Maynard Keynes. The poor have actually lost the most from this economic downturn. Eventually enough Americans will wake up.

I do not put much faith in “the electorate”.

The sheeple will vote for who the Obama media group tells them to.

We are screwed as usual.

And the next generations will be slaves to the taxman forever.
