School lunches were never a problem if I go back to may grandparents,my father and mother and my self we were educated enough of how and what we wanted to eat But now schools are trying to tell parents what and how to pack lunches for their kids It should be none of the schools business what parents pack for their child lunches

At least the kids will eat something. With the Moochel menu, most of the food goes into the trash.

Well, school lunch prices just keep increasing and taxpayers can not afford to allow their kids to buy school lunches every day even if they wanted to. Ofcourse, the protected classes, their kids eat free or drastically reduced.

Just speculating...Perhaps parents pack food that their kids will actually eat, thereby giving them at least some nutrition, and avoiding wasted food.

School programs, on the other hand, are content with the zero nutrition and wasted food associated with abandoned “healthy” meals.

School-prepared lunches (part of the federal school lunch program) include a fruit or vegetable, low-fat milk, limited unhealthy fats and whole grains.

... and fill the trash cans with uneaten items.

==

It doesn't matter how supposedly healthy the meals are. If the kids won't eat them, they become slop for hog farms.

“....Lunches from home — most presumably parent-packed — fell far short of the nutrition guidelines required for the lunches served by schools, said the researchers from Tufts University in Boston. In home-packed lunches, they found snacks trumped fruit, for example...”

Curious as to where in the Constitution it’s any of the governments damned business what foods I put in my lunch, or my kids lunch.

We need to throw a whole bunch of nosy, self righteous, busybody, Democrats the ‘H’ out of our government so we can get on with the business of living, and producing for ourselves, and our families without worrying the government will be giving our money away to colleges to write up reports such as this.

Hard to believe I turned out as well as I did on liverwurst sandwiches, pickles and Twinkies in my lunchbox.

*SWOON* To this DAY - crack open a package of Braunschweiger with a side of Gherkins and I will follow you into battle...and we will WIN! :)

The Twinkie? I traded that for ammo and smokes...

Yeah, mom packs celery sticks and the kid does not eat them. So, she packs a gogurt and soon the kid tires of them. So, after racking her brain to figure out what else she can put into the kid's lunch that is healthy, she realizes that if the kid at least eats something nutritious then that is good. So, the kid eats a fruit, a sandwich and a treat.

Moochie wants to hold our kid's noses and force them to eat "cardboard."

Good luck, Moochie.

Low fat dairy?

For an active kid, high fat dairy is preferable.

Healthy or not, it’s not the business of the government.

Government is incapable of imposing Heaven on Earth and all such attempts have the opposite result.

They are probably getting some of the same stuff they eat when they eat at home. Back in the sixties when I was in school, we had good school lunches that kids actually would eat. They also resembled the good meals we got at home. Lunches from home were good too. All of this amazingly without government intervention. The world has changed a lot since then, so I think the answer to today’s problem is for the government to choose and supply three meals a day for all households with school-aged children.

Say, that is troubling. Perhaps we should pass on all of our childrens’ nutritional responsibilities to the State.

So humans who have babies are stupid, therefore other humans who work
for the Government know what's best?

People who make this crap up need to be shunned by society and sent packing
to live under a bridge somewhere far away from populations.

How is it that parents of young children are still allowed to do their own grocery shopping? They should have to obtain approved food packages from the central distribution center. Otherwise they may conclude they are capable of deciding what is best for their own child. Heresy!

Funny thing. Our local school district is serving “free” breakfasts and lunches this year via a federal grant. If a child brings her lunch from home and wants school milk to go with it, she has to pay $.50 for the milk that comes free with a tray of school food. I suggested on a school Facebook page that the children who want milk but not the food put their lunches down at their table and then go through the lunch line and take the tray and milk. Then eat the lunch from home and return the tray of food to the cafeteria at the end of lunch. Someone removed the post. Lol. Typical government stupidity in action. I am sure it is due to federal rules that the school must charge for the milk.

"Parent-packed lunches often not healthy, study says"

I wonder if they've done any studies on why student test scores have dropped, literacy has dropped, math skills have dropped...
