For those who haven't yet clicked, we used a similar salute (which was supposed to go with our Pledge of Allegiance) until a few years AFTER it was adopted by Mussolini and later Hitler. Roots are in ancient Rome. The same royals might well have been taught it here in 1933, and it would have nothing to do with Hitler or the Italian fascists. Worth reading up on.

His Nazi sympathies were the tip of the iceberg. The movie The King's Speech has become one of my recent "can watch this a dozen times" favorites. Edward's affair with and abdication over a twice divorced American (rumored) dominatrix was one of the providential events in British history.
