At an increasing rate, Americans separate themselves into culturally and ideologically homogeneous enclaves.
Last week there were two telling incidents one small, the other more consequential that spoke volumes about the state of our national life. Lets start small. Over in Seattle, in the midst of a debate over juvenile justice, a city-council member invoked his Republican friends as a symbol of the broad-based agreement that incarceration policies need to change. One of his colleagues, Kshama Sawant, snapped back with the proud declaration that she didnt have any Republican friends. The crowd cheered.
Sure, its but one small incident, but consider something bigger. The state of California is in the process of taking a series of political steps that are not only cementing its status as a progressive enclave, its stumbling toward its own foreign policy. After Donald Trump withdrew America from the Paris climate agreement, California governor Jerry Brown rushed to fill the void. California is touting its collaborations with China to combat global warming. Heres Brown, in reporting by the Sacramento Bee:
It is a little bold to talk about the ChinaCalifornia partnership as though we were a separate nation, but we are a separate nation, Brown said of the state, with nearly 40 million residents and the worlds sixth-largest economy. Were a state of mind. I include Silicon Valley, I include the environmental activism, the biotech industry, agriculture. This is a place of great investment in innovation.
Indeed, California has such a different view of the relationship between citizen and state, its virtually seceding from the Constitution, overriding the First Amendment time and again for the sake of social justice. And now its legislature is even taking the first steps to implement a $400 billion single-payer health plan....

I am sure you are of the mind, but conservatives should never doubt that when libs have the numbers ( or the support of those who choose cultural suicide), they WILL attempt to finish the Civil War.
They are destroying its memorials now. They will then move on to Union memorials because they are huge oppressive monuments to white supremacy as well..
Bottom line, I only wish to live with those who share my cultural interests and mores, and do not wish to be anywhere near those that hate me and ultimately wish to destroy me. Is this wrong-headed?
If physical separation, complete and absolute, is the answer, so be it.
I have proposed a compromise solution to this which I borrowed from Ancient Rome. Ancient Rome had two empires, the Eastern Empire based in Constantinople and the Western Empire based In Rome. Each Empire had its own Emperor and its own government. We could do that. And every 10 years or so the voters of each state could vote which Empire they wanted to be a part of.
Please, please let this happen! But of course, when the Liberal States of Hedonism inevitably tank, they’ll be trying to immigrate to our sandbox to poop in that one too.
“I don’t care at that point what happens inside CA after they leave. It’s their problem not mine.”
You don’t care about the millions of decent Americans who voted for President Trump? You’d abandon them to socialism?
Really?
The Nine Nations of North America predicted that the US would split up into different regions.
California was going back to Mexico in the prediction.
They have the option to vote with their feet. I did that a long time ago.
If you think Windflier is a unionist bully you’ve horrendously misjudged him.
If anything, he’s probably been greatly wronged by unionist bullies.
windflier is right on most things but dead wrong about this.
I don't even know what the hell that means, and I doubt you do, either.
I've seen you comment on this topic before. For whatever reason, you appear to be stuck on an irrational, spitting hatred, for the state of California.
Plenty of decent, patriotic Americans live there, including JimRob, tons of Freepers, and millions of others like them.
Yeah, we've got issues with a sizable portion of the people there, but show me a state that isn't infected with liberals. They're everywhere, including my beloved Texas. You wanna lop Texas off too?
We're not going to fix this by kicking states out of the union.
You never make any progress, do you?
Well said, friend.
I’m not even sure what a “unionist bully” is. Perhaps it’s the opposite of a confederist bully.
Sheesh...
I just know that kicking states out of the union isn’t the answer to what ails this country. I think that’s actually surrender.
There’s going to be a resolution of this crap one way or another, but what form that will take, I do not know.
I do know that the Left is losing, and in disarray. They will not change their ways, so it should be simple to forecast their near-term viability as a political movement.
They’re going to double down on the things that lost, believing that somehow, they’ll get a different result. Anyone with an IQ over room temperature should be able to predict how that’ll work out.
So what’s the fuss all about? Our side is winning, despite the noise.
Yep. Not good.
In essence, the libs can't hold California, if it comes to a fight. They can't have that territory unless the rest of the country decides to let them take it without a fight.
If we did that, some other country who IS willing to fight for it, would take it by force in short order.
Doesn't sound like much of a gameplan, does it?
Thank you, Trish.
Can we sell it?
