“That is the nature of a Republic.”

No. If I vote for a candidate who proclaims that he is pro-abortion, I incur guilt when I vote for him, not for the babies he will kill in the future. Same goes for same-sex marriage proponents, or for any candidate who advertises he will break faith with our founding documents.

“I would happily see the whole damned edifice torn down; pay off the current victims and quit making new ones.”

Would be great, but no money for that. The system will have to be restructured in the future.

“”Galveston Texas opted out of Social Security several years ago. Then the federal government closed that loophole.””

I remember when that was in the news - thanks for the reminder...too bad these stories die. They need to be revived and cover up the Russia drum beat...

“”He said it about a month ago and may have recently repeated it.””

He may have but the only thing I can find is from 2011...this story has been around a long time in forwarded emails...

It’s in the article at the link - the letter the foul mouthed woman wrote to Simpson....2011...

There’s a reason we’re not hearing about the Chilean SS system.

People have become less dependent on government and since their SS investment relies on the success of the free market, EVERYONE has a stake in building a successful, business-friendly economy.

This would not fit into the socialist narrative.

It’s welfare - not if you get back less than you put in

I paid in the max since 1966 except for the time I was in university, 47 years. I will never get back what I paid in using constant dollars with the lowly return one would get on a treasury certificate. If invested in the stock market S&P I would be a millionaire several times over.
