Glock and Beretta dropped the ball on the XM17 project

Word (from The Firearm Blog) has it that Glocks cannot get over losing the XM17 Modular Handgun System contract to Sig Sauer.

More rumors are getting around stating that Sig Sauer was basically handed the contract.

The XM17 tests were a huge differences to the M9 tests of the 1980s. The M9 tests were very in-depth,and the results were talked about for years by various gun publications.

From reading everything we can tell the 1980s about the M9 project, there seem to be several major fallacies with the M17 test. If we look at the fallacies, the chances of Glock winning diminish even more.

Randomly Selected Handguns During the M9 test, inspectors were allowed to select handguns at random from the factory. As reported by various publications in the 1980s, inspectors were allowed to walk into the factory, and hand pick at random which handguns to test. These samples were then tested and compared with the submitted samples.

The goal was to see if companies had modified their submissions from guns that were actually being produced.

Glocks does not mass-produce the model submitted for the M17 test. It would have been pretty much impossible for inspectors to compare random handguns from the assembly line to the test sample Glock submitted; this alone is the opposite to what happened in the 1980s.

Let's look at the facts: Glock and Beretta dropped the ball. They had 30 years to develop a new handgun, and they didn't. Read the rest of the Glock & Beretta XM17 project story here.

"...another 0bama buried nugget..."

Muslim Kenyan Homo President Barack Hussein 0bama doesn't know a SIG Sauer, from a Glock, from a Beretta, from a Ruger, from a Smith & Wesson.

Sigs are great. I am good with the test results. The Sig P320 is booming on the civillian market.

OF COURSE it is not for sale here in communist California. Good thing for the ubiquitous P220.

Why does Glock refuse to put a thumb safety on its pistols?

They are all great guns. Each and every one of them. I wouldn’t feel unarmed with any of them in my hand.

The problem is that the entire DoD wants a single firearm so only one product is selected, and that’s probably just plain silly.

Because, according to Glock owners, "your brain is the safety." Glock advisors also state, "keep your bugger finger off the bang switch."

Quite frankly, I prefer DA/SA semi automatic pistols for serious work:

.

And 1911s for range enjoyment. Best trigger ever!

I require a SA/DA pistol.

Anything else is not acceptable.

And this 320 is “striker fired”, DAO. That the US Military chose such a weapon leads me to suspect payola.

Somewhere, somehow.

Custom Dan Wesson Valor. Incredible trigger. Paid around $2,300 a few years ago.

I wouldn’t have a DA/SA as a gift. Having a long trigger pull, then a short one is a mess. I grew up on a Colt and for several years shot speed matches and shot about 200 rounds a day. I never got used to having two different trigger pulls, and wouldn’t own one. I have carried a Glock 30 for years and shoot it well, although it was different enough it took me a few rounds to appreciate it.

I carried an M9 after they took away my very worn out M1911. It broke multiple times while I was on the range. That worn out 1911 fired every time I pulled the trigger, no exceptions, it wasn’t very accurate but it was reliable.

I have owned one Sig p220. The first time I dove to the ground with it, I broke the hand grips. The disassembly lever started out tight and within a few years completely locked up requiring application of hammer and brass rod to remove and replace. I don’t know how many rounds I have shot through it but the barrel is now shot out when my various Colts, S&Ws, Rugers, and Glocks have held up over approximately the same number of shots.

Not sure who should have won the competition but I’ve had not great experiences with 2 of 3 mentioned rivals.

I’m interested in the DW 10mm. Just for fun.

I am a Glock fanboy and I thought the M9 was a nice pistol but a little big. The M&P 9 is a really nice gun too but the Sig 320 just doesn’t trip my trigger.

10mm. Great round for trail use, hand abuse, and bragging rights. 😁

With that much recoil, target re-acquisition will be more challenging. Better hope there are not any good guys behind the perp. Even a hot 9 will over penetrate.
