If you’re talking about A K steel in Dearborn, its not a bad area. Its actually “downriver” of Detroit off of I-75.
If you decide to take the job, look for places to stay south of there. Lincoln Park, Taylor, Wyandotte are okay.
Plus you would be right by Ford world headquarters. And check out the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village while you’re there.

You couldn't pay me enough to live in/around Detroit. Granted, I live about 25-30 miles outside of Chicago which is just about as crazy.
If you're in the south (?) now you're going to be in for some severe culture shock coming up north. I went to visit Laz last summer in Georgia and this damn' yankee loved the south. People there are much nicer, it's a slower pace of life, it's a complete rat race north of I-80.
