So would that make their job opportunity a slim chance or a fat chance?

Maybe they were afraid she would fall on one of the children.

When a toddler opens the gate and starts walking toward the street, would you want a 500lbs hog that could NOT, under any circumstances, sprint to avert disaster, or would you want someone who is more agile? Hell, a 70 year old retiree would be faster.

Also, as an employer, you better discuss it with your insurance because morbidly obese have LOTS of underlying medical issues, and will probably die or severely injure themselves (or a child) on their watch.

People who are very overweight are ticking time bombs vis a vie a health care and disability and workers comp costs.

Ditto for smokers, I have not hired a smoker in perhaps 2 decades.

It is a perfectly rational approach to screen out candidates for these issues.

Owens, who was 525 pounds at 5’11” at the time of her interview with the daycare center....

....1/4 ton of fat isn't "overweight" and not even "obese"....she is super morbidly obese. A danger to herself and the daycare.

I’ve seen how overweight (or should I chance it and just say ‘fat’?) people eat. No one really needs to eat that much food. All they have to do is cut down.

Another victim group which tells us they are perfectly normal, perfectly fit, and perfectly able for anything they choose to do, simply because they choose it.

If women keep it up with “he looked at me” being sexual harassment, the title of this article will have to be changed to “only 2 percent of hiring managers would consider hiring a woman”.

Describing 525 pounds as overweight is a lie by omission.

she’s lost out on other career opportunities (such as jobs in retail that would have required prolonged periods of standing),

And a job at a daycare wouldn't require prolonged periods of standing?

Not to mention the extraordinary healthcare costs the company would have with a 525 lb. employee.

Overweight is one thing, but the woman in the article is 525 pounds!

Actually the females I have worked with as middle and upper level managers are prone to weight indicating their ability to manage.

Females who have had children and careers, are chunky overweight or just big, are usually very good managers.

Skinny females who have never had children re horrible managers but insist on explaining their greatness every fay.

5’11”, 525? In a day care? Suppose she fell on one of the kids? And could she move fast enough to protect a little one from some imminent anger?

Right after college, I worked for a logistics company near the airport part time. MOST the girls were either hot and or below 25. Mostly blonds. Every day the other companies employees beside us were always asking me if there were openings. There were only 2 other not hot women but they kept to themselves.

They use a five hundred and twenty five pound woman as an example of weight discrimination in employment? Gimme a break.
