Morality is but a description of how the love of Christ will behave in its purity. It never was an end in itself. Attempts to make it an end in itself, as during the death throes of the prevalent American church mentality, will only bring us distortion.

Nothing but the power of God could make something like this fall.
I wrote a song a few years ago envisioning this happening through “the love of God” by means a group of people I called “rednecks.” A more modern term might be the Trump “deplorables.”
“And the devils will be shown up for an illusion; And U.S. rednecks will be standing strong and stout.”
Breaking the illusion, I aver, is key. Satan can lay quite a lie on our imagination and feelings by things that are crafted while we aren’t watching. Till the lie looks real and the truth looks implausible. There’s a power vacuum that needs to be filled.

But still. To have the champion be Donald Trump. Is that God snickering over there behind the scenes? Nobody on this mortal coil would have chosen Donald Trump a priori. What? He’s a real estate mogul. He’s never been in government in his entire life. He’s a playboy, a secular liberal pushover, a civic ignoramus. You got to be kidding.
Something chose Donald. Something gave him a hint packed with so much optimism that he could not refuse. And not just a hint. A solid leading.
I feel that God answered the prayers of over 62 million Americans, who voted to elect Trump as our president.
My wife feels that Christians around the world probably joined our prayers because a President Trump might have been their last hope.
Little did she/I and others know that if Trump had not become president, now, we would have been without hope like those in other countries.
Agreed, but I think we’re called upon to do more. To be active Christians in spite of it. What we’re facing is in my view not all that historically unique. The early days of the church, the dark ages, communism in east Europe. Take your pick. We survived all and in many cases thrived despite it.
I’m reading a very good book that is looking at strategies for a post Christian nation. It’s called “The Benedict Option”. I recommend it.
God uses people would never choose. When you look at Saul, David and Solomon you see how flawed men are. Man picked Saul and God chose David and Solomon. Trump never sinned as much as any of these three.

I was joking with Liz earlier this morning that we might need a couple Cray super computers to keep track what happened and is being released to us via the internet.

I had a little glimpse behind the scenes at a falling out in a Baptist association over “support of Donald Trump.” It seemed to reveal contemporary Christian stiffness more than anything about Donald. Even his supporters seem bent on plastering labels on him, as though they were on the “polarize and freeze” apologetics team. To view him as a work under revision seems to be beyond their ken. But to me it seems more and more obvious.
I could see the shot of optimism that Donald Trump had caught during his campaign months. Just one appearance on TV made it quite obvious to me. His talk about winning and winning and winning was quite sincere — being Spirit driven I now believe. It mattered not that his outward Christian faith was nominal at best, and that churched in a virtually dead mainline denomination. He doesn’t even look like that now. He’s transcended it.
